Haggis chips anyone? (updated with a source!)

by JohnS » Sat Dec 18, 2010 2:19 am

Yes, haggis chips...

Great Scot International announced this week it would have Mackie's Haggis and Cracked Black Pepper chips on display at its booth at the annual Fancy Food Show in New York next month.

I have to admit, I would/will try these. I bought several cans of Caledonian Kitchen haggis a few years ago on a whim, and I actually liked the stuff, so the chips intrigue me.

Definitely shifted to 'will try' - found a US source for the imported version, so no need to wait for the official release. I ordered a bag of haggis chips, along with 2 bags of the Scotch Bonnet chili pepper ones, which sound pretty darned good. They do have a $15 minimum, if anyone else is tempted to give them a try. Amazon also had the haggis ones by the case, but that seemed like a bit of a stretch in the event they turn out to be utterly vile... :)

You mean, as in put together an order and split it up? I'd be willing to try one of the haggis and two of the Scotch Bonnets, John!

I could definitely go for that - I had to pad the first order with some other random stuff (tho having always wanted to try Irn-bru made it a bit easier) to get to the minimum, but a few extra bags of chips wouldn't hurt. I'm sure I have a friend or two who would be daring enough to try the haggis chips, even if one of said friends did suggest the motto for the chips should be 'we dare you to eat more than one'... :D

Anyone else interested? I can place another order and deliver COD over lunch/whatever or someone else can do the same - I'm pretty flexible.

Since this is about food and about our community, I'm going to move it over into the main forum to see if folks who don't always come to The Kitchen are interested. I'm definitely in, though! Are you thinking about going to the HotBytes New Year's Day buffet gathering at Seviche, by any chance? That would be a good way to do a meetup, although certainly not the only way.)

Won't be in town for the New Years Day thing, but I will probably be wishing I was somewhere near a bloody mary bar...

I'm planning on placing an order for chips on Tuesday before I leave town for Florida, so if anyone wants to add to the list, let me know here or PM me with the details before noonish Tuesday. We can figure out how to divvy up the spoils post-Xmas.

I am an absolute sucker for international junk food.

Have you ever tried Walkers crisps from the UK? They have some very interesting "flavours". Smoky bacon and worcester sauce are my favorites.

I split a case of these with a friend in Lexington every once in a while:

LOVE me some ketchup chips.

Hmmm...was thinking about snagging a bag for my dad since he likes the adventurous side of eating, but after looking over the site I may just place my own order. Angus chips, whisky coffee, toffee cookies...yeah, I can find plenty to meet a minimum order!

Order was placed today, so once it arrives, a plan for passing out the goodies(?) will be made...
