EL Mariachi Restaurante Mexicano

by Madeline Peters » Tue Dec 14, 2010 10:03 pm

We love La Rosita Mexican Restaurant but sometimes the drive is just too much. We have found a great little substitution in Lyndon that fills the bill. This is a restaurant that caters to a Mexican clientele so you won't find any "Chihuahua cheese" here. It is nestled between a mexican grocery store and tortilla-making mini factory of which they use for their fresh tortillas as well as chips.

Similiar to La Rosita they are making their own sauces here. Of course the sauces are not as sophisticated as La Rosita but they are handmade nontheless and come free to your table. I keep coming back for the chili poblano, the sopes and the albondigas. I have asked if they can make me a gordita and they said they could. My son always gets the chicken fajita and my husband the carnitas. Like a true Mom and Pop, it can be hit and miss. Last nights carnitas were fatty and not as good as the other times we have visited. The poblano, fajitas, sopes and albondigas have been consistant. The carne asada was just like prison quality meat, "really keeps you chewing". I have not tried their tortas or quesadillas. Address:9901 Lagrange Rd Suite 1 40223 502 413-5770

They have beer on tap. A comfortable dining room that is clean and inviting. The staff is great and love it when we gringos walk in. Just so there is no confusion there is another restaurant located in the same mall called El Tarasco. Anyway, it is real homecooked mexican food.

Hmmmm, still not sure of the location. Could you please give a few more land marks so I can get a mental fix on where this is. Is it close to the end of Lyndon Lane near the train tracks and the side road to the old Camlot Center of is it the other way?

:P ....Carla. Madaline is relatively new in town. I don't know that she knows where the "Old Camlot Center" is. Perhaps a radial/distance off the "Old Sears Building" would be a better way of determining the location.

Just West of Hurstbourne Pkwy on LaGrange Rd. Across the tracks is Iceland and the UPS fortress. There is an Arby's within that block as well.

Steve

All I know is that I drive into Anchorage and I follow the Train Track to the first major intersection. I think you can turn left and go to UPS. If you go right the shopping mall will be to your left. There is a gas station, a pizza place and a latin food market and tortilla shop. The restaurant is located between the grocery store and the tortilla shop.

. Across the tracks is Iceland

That's a very long drive for Mexican food. Probably involves a boat ride as well.

That's about 4 miles due east of the "Old Sears Building" on LaGrange Rd.

This was Taqueria y Fonda Guanajuato for a while, they have fixed it up and now it's a restaurant-restaurant with waitress on board. I've been in a couple times for take out. The food is good and like Madeline I've found the carnitas hit and miss but overall, a nice, clean well run taqueria. Plus you get to shop at the nice little Mexican grocery next door!
