Is White Oak gone?

by Lonnie Turner » Fri Dec 10, 2010 5:27 pm

Called their phone, 583-4177; it's disconnected. Tried three times just in case I dialed wrong. Website is still up but that's usually the last thing to go. Forgive me if I missed this in a thread somewhere. Did they close?

I don't know for certain Lonny, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me - as much as I hate to say that.

We received a groupon for White Oak as a gift. We attempted, and failed to use it SO many times that it actually turned into somewhat of a running family joke. One time there was a note saying there was an issue with the a/c, another time there was a note saying they were having LG&E issues, another time the phone was temporarily disconnected, another time we called first and got a recording saying they were closed for a private event but would honor groupons past their expiration date (which I find to a very nice gesture) - however we were NOT going again without calling first and EVERY single time I called, I just got a generic recording. Nobody ever answered the phone....we finally just gave up.

I think they had a "soft closing." Based on some things I've heard, I expected them to disappear a couple of months ago. Too bad. Very nice concept, and well executed when they got it right.

How sad. The night I proposed to my wife, we had dinner at the White Oak.

They left a path of rubber checks in their wake.

Is a "soft" closing something akin to sneaking out of town in the middle of the night?
