Sunday Lunch/Bunch Near YUM! Center?

by Mike D » Sun Dec 05, 2010 10:26 am

Some friends of ours will be going downtown this afternoon for the UK - U of L women's basketball game and asked if I knew what's open for lunch/brunch within easy walking distance of the arena (three blocks or less). Can anyone provide some information?

Dish on Market is a good choice. Only 3 blocks away!

BBC Arena does brunch on some weekend game days. I would call first 502-562-0007.

Open on Sundays? It wasn't on one Sunday when we went looking for lunch, but that's been a couple of years.

Yep. Downtown Bristol opens up at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday.

Obviously, it's too late now; but, for future reference the Rivue on the 25th floor of the Galt House has a great Sunday brunch and the building is connected to the Yum! Center. (Thus, no cold walking outside!)

Speaking of the pedway, my daughter has a parking spot at the Seelbach so for many games, they will use the pedway to walk to the game. Sometimes the 4th Street Live access is closed, so they hop on it at the Hyatt. When they get to the Galt House, sometimes there are events going on and security keeps them from getting to it there so you have to use the parking garage access. There are no signs. Still a few kinks to work out. Otherwise, love UL playing in the new arena.

It's only public when nothing important is going on.

I wonder if it was built entirely with private funds.

Robin, I understand what you're getting at. My read from what Ellen is saying is that hotel security didn't let her daughter pass through a part of the pedway path that goes through the Galt House itself? I think that may be it. If so, it's an easy fix. We take that route via pedway to the Yum Center all the time and have never been stopped. And we do have to go through the Galt House parking garage for a small portion of the walk.

Might be! Thanks, Antonia. And now that I think about it, back in Al Schneider's day, the Galt House had a memorable record of assuming de facto ownership of public space, including a sizable chunk of the Belvedere.
