What could have gone wrong?

by Jerry C » Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:30 pm

Rarely can I get all 3 of my kids and their families together anymore (oldest is 29, a doctor as is her husband; next is 27 doing the corporate thing at Humana; and last one is 20 and going to U of K). Youngest was in town for the thanksgiving break and I managed to get everyone to commit to Sunday brunch. I love Ramsi's brunch buffet so we planned to meet there at 11:30. Ugh! The place was packed with a 45 minute wait.

We started to head for North End when someone mentioned Asiatique. My son-in-law loves their seafood omelet and I had never been so off we went. It is now almost noon.

We arrive and there is NO ONE in the place. "Uh oh", I says to myself, "this is not a good sign". Believe it or not it went downhill from there. Our attentive server (he may have been the only saving grace), takes our beverage orders (6 coffee's and an OJ). He re appears after a few minutes with 3 cups of coffee saying they were brewing a new batch. The only problem...the 3 cups were room temperature.

Strike one.

New coffee did show up in 10 minutes. We each place our orders...everything straight from their menu...nothing special ordered. Mind you there is no one else in the restaurant. After almost 30 minutes 3 of the orders come out (mine was one (seafood omelet). It's 12:45 and I am starved, but not everyone has their meal. We patiently wait for the other orders, but after 4-5 minutes the others tell us not to wait and begin eating. The seafood omelet looks fantastic, but with the first bite the egg is COLD, and the seafood is at best room temp. Same for the other two that got their orders.

Strike two.

Another few minutes and out comes two more orders and then finally another 3-4 minutes and the final two orders appear.

Strike three.

Unless our server was also the cook how can things go wrong like this. How can the kitchen not get out 7 hot meals within 5 minutes of each other? I could cut a little slack IF the place had been slammed but our party of 7 was 100% of the paying customers (no one came in during our 75 minute tenure either).

I have not read any negative reviews on LHB, but judging from the lack of customers someone must have known something that I did not know.

I didn't take it out on the server and left him 20%, but unless someone comes up with a great excuse for them, I won't be going back.

I hope that was just a one time situation. I made reservations today for their holiday bubbles brunch which sounds spectacular, and sincerely hope that is not what we can expect. I guess we will see if anyone steps forward with a reasonable explanation.

Asiatique is a restaurant I've wanted to love so much but every time I give it a second chance I've had just another not so wonderful experience.

I remember heading there years ago with some friends for drinks and they had a decent enough menu. My friends raved about the food but I have never eaten there. I know that back then the place was popular and eventually they either opened up a new location or changed locations.

Perhaps they have followed the way of many restaurants in this area with a good concept that just ran out of steam or something. I don't know much about how they are now but I know that back then it was elbow to elbow in that place and people were all about the food.

I have had many stellar experiences at Asiatique, and the last one was quite recently. Three of us sat in the Lounge (downstairs) for happy hour before moving outside to a table for dinner. The cocktails were inventive and tasty. The apps we had in the Lounge were delicious. Salads and entrees were solid and impressive as always. I remember our server in the Lounge being so professional and skilled that we ended up talking about how great he was while we were having our drinks. The three of us have all worked in restaurants and relish a great service experience. The first impression I've always gotten when I enter the restaurant is positive, professional and welcoming. That goes a long way to start things off right.

Hearing this negative stuff about Asiatique is surprising to me, because I haven't had a similar experience there. I have never worked there and am not affiliated with the place - just speaking as a person who enjoys visiting.

Like Antonia, my experiences have all been very good. I admit that it's been a few years since we dined in the actual dining room, but over the last three or four years we've gone for drinks and small plates at the bar and in the lounge, and service and food have been outstanding each time.

I was afraid that Anderson leaving might decrease service and quality in the bar/lounge area, but I've found that not to be the case.

Their happy hour pricing is also great.

I haven't been for brunch.

Just got back from the holiday bubbles brunch at Asiatique and must say it was fantastic. Very well put together (flavors & presentation). This was my gift to my girlfriend's parents since they love wine and food as much as we do and it seemed to be a success. Thanks Jeremy and staff. Looking forward to next visit.

I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but as I recall, I'm hanging on and waiting for a reply from a guy named Jeremy or Jeromy who registered but didn't follow the "real name, real-world-format" rule and needs to give me the thumbs up on a repair job.

If it's Jeremy Herrman, he told me he signed up Thursday, and has been waiting since then for approval.

He's a super foodie friend of mine, and has a pretty interesting story to share, I might add.

Okay, I'd really like to get him in, but I'm looking over the lists and not seeing any Jeremys (or Jeromys, either) waiting for entry. Either his registration didn't complete, or he used a non-complying user name and got held up. Unfortunately, we have to be strict about that because we literally get about 50 to 100 spammers every day, and all we can do is put up a detailed user name rule and then ignore anybody who doesn't follow it.

I can fix him up, but I have to find his record. If you run into him or talk to him by Email, would you ask him to please try to remember what user name he tried, and then get him to pass it along to you by PM or to me by email?
