Tony Impellizzeri's

Anybody know about its status? A correspondent writes that the shop on Vieux Carre off Hurstbourne and Shelbyville Road looked "dark and empty" last week. The phone doesn't seem to be disconnected, though.

Hmmmm......I've not been by there lately (usually cut thru to get to Lowe's to avoid the mess on Hurstbourne)....I will plan a Lowes run in the very near future and report back.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

I'll go out on a limb and say it was just closed for a Turkey Day break. Either way, I hope someone chimes in soon. I'm doing WordCamp Louisville this Saturday at the Louisville Shelby Campus and that was one of the places we were going to suggest for lunch.

The space is empty. Looks like they are gone.

I received word a while back that my initial response was wrong. They have indeed closed their doors. The sign made mention of relocating, but I haven't seen/heard anything yet.

My kids called that the depressing pizza place. So dark &dingy, it looked like the place time forgot. My son & I stopped in for lunch one day we were the only customers in the place. The lady behind the register stared at us the whole time we ate. Same thing also happened if we arrived to early for our carry out.

Depressing pizza place! I recall it smelling of cigarette smoke a long time after the smoking ban went into effect, they had to be smoking in the back to get that much smoke smell. I would get carry out every once and a while, and the za was *good*, but the dining room experience not so much. Maybe they will relocate to someplace a little more visible and a little less smoky smelling. I tried calling the old phone number and it just rang and rang...

Call me weird, but I always liked Tony's place, and to his credit, he kept the Impellizzeri flag flying in Louisville for many years. I'm sorry to see him go and hope he is able to relocate.

Agree completely, Robin. I was only good for about one of his ten-pound pizzas every six months or so, but I think Tony was a good guy with a good product. Hope he lands on his feet soon.

Yep, when the old one in the Highlands closed, I was upset for a couple of years before somebody told me about Tony's. It was like Christmas morning the first time I went out there and had a slice, after thinking I'd never experience Impellizeri's again. This is sad news if it's permanent.

Re: Tony Impellizzeri's - New Albany?

Okay, the buzz in downtown NA, apparently verifiable, is that an Impellizeri's Pizza is coming to a space on Pearl Street -- same block as Rosita's, other side of the street from the River City Winery.

Question is, which one? Can someone help me dope this out?

I'm taking the "new" Impellizeri's locations (Bardstown Road, Main Street, et al) to be the issue of a consortium of investors revitalizing the brand, whereas there was the "other" one mentioned in this thread, which I'm taking to be Tony and family of Tony's. My guess, then, is that it's the latter coming to New Albany, and not the "newer" version. I've no motive here other than to clarify. Thus, any clarity readers can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Yet another reason to cross that mile-wide divide!
