Chefs for Hope Dinner Feb 5, 2011

by Paula B » Thu Nov 25, 2010 8:18 am

Plan ahead now to help the Salvation Army Culinary Program raise money-- as well have a fabulous meal w/ an incredible line up of chefs. The Culinary Program is an intensive 10 week program designed to give the graduates the skills to get a job in the food service industry-- specifically, the kitchen. It is a true "hand up", instead of a hand out. Last year, we raised over $20,000 to help the program, and the incredible people involved. The louisville chefs have continued to help by hiring graduates, and mentoring students. The need continues to be staggering, and a new class of students will begin again in january.
The chefs cooking for you will be: Kathy Cary, Dean Corbett, Peng Looi, Anoosh Shariat, Daniel Stage, Jim Gerhart
There are limited number of tickets available at $250 each. This event sold out very quickly last year, and we expect the same to happen this year.
We will have other ways to help sponsor a student, and hope to have the "wish" list to post soon.
Event will be at ParkPlace 401 E Main St 40202 at 7pm.
For Tickets, Call Stacy Roof at KRA 931-5420
Thanks in advance for helping a great cause.

Let's bounce this back up to the top ... I just had a news release passed on from the folks at LEO, reminding me that it's time to remind everyone. The dinner price may sound steep, but it goes to a very good cause, and pays off with an amazing dinner fashioned by seven of the city's top chefs.

Here's the current news release:

Chefs for Hope Fundraiser

Chefs for Hope is an incredible multi-course dinner prepared by Louisville's culinary stars to benefit the Salvation Army Culinary Training Program which takes place Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Park Place on Main. Each chef will prepare one course and they are: Anoosh Shariat, owner of Browning's Brewery & Restaurant; Peng Looi, owner of Asiatique and August Moon; Kathy Cary, owner of Lilly's; Dean Corbett, owner of Corbett's, Equus and Jack's Lounge; Jim Gerhardt, owner of Limestone Restaurant; and Daniel Stage, executive chef at Louisville Country Club.

The cost is $250 per person including tax and tip. The event starts at 7 p.m. Make it an early Valentine's Day celebration with exceptional food for a good cause. Or, simply go because you believe in the program. For tickets call 502-238-7861. Last year's event raised $20,000 and sold out quickly as there are a limited number of available tickets.

The 10-week training program, for low income and homeless citizens, instills all of the basic culinary skills needed for work in the hospitality and food service industry. Also included in the training are such things as self-marketing, resume development, workplace ethics, and effective communication. Graduates of the program have gone on to work in hospitals, hotels and area restaurants.

What a treat! It's been a long time since I have been as exited about a salad as I was about Chef Gerhardt's roots, seeds and sprouts salad. I love seasonal cuisine, and few do it better than Jim. The pureed beet and balsamic was sweet and musty and provided a good foil to the tart greens. Great food + wonderful company + great cause = Wonderful experience!

This sounded too good to be true; I so wanted to participate, but my shoulder repair made this an absolute impossibility. Hopefully I wiil be able to enjoy this event next year.
