When I lived in New England, McDonalds offered McLobster Rolls in the summertime. I think they were 7 bucks

Lobster rolls are amazing, hopefully these will be good ones. Has anyone tried these yet? Lobster rolls are almost as good as oyster poboys.

Does Seafood Connection in St. Matthews still have lobster roll on its lunch-counter menu? Seems like it was about $10, and when he was there, Chef Mike was using all claw and tail meat, not scraps.

Yum! I remember these, too, from spending vacations on Cape Cod several times. I never got one, preferring to patronize the local lobster shacks, but thought it was a fantastic idea.

The ones at the Seafood Connection are good, but not quite the same as on the Cape or in Maine.

Here's the key for me: "It contains North American lobster..."

Note that it doesn't say that this is the cold-water Maine/New England lobster that most folks equate with quality crustaceans. In fact it could have come from anywhere between cold-water Canada and the warm-water Caribbean.

What's wrong with warm-water lobster? I'm copy-and-pasting from here:

"Warm water lobsters are sometimes called spiny lobsters or rock lobsters, and since they are less expensive that the more desirable cold water lobster (the classic “Maine lobster”) their tails are often frozen and served simply as “lobster tail.” If you ever had a tough “lobster tail” served at a hotel banquet or on a mass market cruise ship, perhaps as part of a “Surf-and-Turf” platter, it was almost certainly the frozen tail of a warm water lobster, most probably a Caribbean lobster from the Bahamas or Honduras."

There is a huge difference between cold and warm water lobster. Warm water lobsters can be either tough or mushy in texture even if cooked properly and the flavor definitely isn't as sweet as Maine lobster.

That picture of the McLobster (as I think it's called) reminded me of a trip to Newfoundland. My husband saw it advertised and insisted that we stop in St. Johns so that he could try one. He pestered me so much that we actually went. I had fries. He has the McLobster, and of course never asked to go back.

It was sort of like visiting the Taco Bell in Mexico.

I seldom get on the board and slam a restaurant but I have NEVER had a good meal at any Red Lobster and the sticker shock of the tab makes it doubling insulting. The cheddar biscuits are OK but I'm not plunking down $17 for a biscuit unless Johnny Depp is sitting on it.
