Fried Clams?

by kati.b » Fri Aug 03, 2007 12:46 pm

Does anyone know of a good place to get these? I have picky eater in my house and for some strange reason that is one of the few things he will eat out in a restaurant! :? We used to be able to get them at Red Robin and that's close to us so it was convenient but then they took them off the menu.

This will be no help to you at all, but it's too bad there are no more HoJos- fried clams and malteds are the two things they did really well.
Just a musing- sorry I can't be more helpful.

I can't attest to how good they are, but Moby Dick's still has fried clams.

Clarksville Seafood has great fried clams. They are pretty far from where you are located.

clams

Rumors, in Middletown, has fried clams. We like the crawfish tails, and steamed oysters also. By the way, I'm enjoying the help with my medium-rare burger issue!

The best ones I've had in town are at the Fish House on Grinstead/Winter (across from the Monkey Wrench)

Wow! You all have been a lot of help. There is a Moby Dick close to me so I think I'll give it a shot first. I love their hushpuppies anyway.

Oh, you're lucky! The Moby Dick near me has EXCELLENT fried fish and really good Onion Rings. But they have the worst hushpuppies I've ever tried. I can't understand why they are so hard and greasy when everything else is excellent.

Most likely they are reheating the hushpuppies by putting them back in the deep fryer. This never works for the reasons you sighted above.

Ask the manager to go yell at the cooks.

Moby Dick makes their own hushpuppies. They are no doubt are making to many and letting them sit under the hot lamp to long. If they seem hard when you get them, ask for some fresh ones. They are very good when coming out of the fryer.

They don't reheat them in the fryer.

Nothing can beat whole belly clams!!!! As oppsed to clam strips which are easy to find here, Does any one know who might serve them here? They are a staple of most summer time functions in New England and with my going to church picnic on right now, I have a big ole' hankering for some. Can any one point me to that direction without talking to Joe at Bluefin?

I'll second that and they also have my favorite fried oysters too... amazing stuff.

The owner (David Hilsenrad) does a great job. Before the Fish House, he owned a seafood place, that I can't remember the name of, located where Club Grotto is now.

Everything on his menu is very good.
