by Robin F. » Tue Nov 02, 2010 9:54 pm

I have a friend at Ft. Knox whose parents are coming in for T-Day. Who is open for a lovely meal?
Thanks!

We had the big dinner at home, but for lunch we hit either Chinese or chains . . . Bob Evans for brunch was a family favorite!

Most of the big hotels will have a very nice buffet, but are pretty expensive.

Actually I am going to tag onto this thread. I have three very elder elders who want to eat out on Thanksgiving. NOT a buffet as mobility is an issue...and they are depression era babies who are a little tight with the bucks...help??

Many meat markets and delis will prepare an entire Thanksgiving meal for you that can be picked up the day before and reheated in your oven. I've never done this myself but I've heard Kingsley's and Mike Best's do a great job. I suggest calling around to compare prices based on your specific needs.

The last couple of years we had Thanksgiving dinner/lunch at Bristol Bar & Grille. We have been very happy with our choice. Hopefully we will be there again this year.

Usually the first weekend in November is when the folks in town start advertising their Thanksgiving plans (and some Christmas as well)....Keep your eye on the Courious Jumble and you can probably find some good ones as well.

I just received an email that indicated Village Anchor is doing Take Home Turkey-Day Meals

Take Home Thanksgiving from the Village Anchor
If you aren't much into cooking this Thanksgiving, reserve your holiday meal now from the Village Anchor! For $20 per person, Village Anchor's Take-Out-Turkey Strategy will (with the help of Chef Geoff -- Cheoffrey) surely make you out to be the most successful host this holiday. Here's what you get for 6, 12 or 18 people:

* One fabulous whole Turkey for either 6/12/18 people (approximately 8, 12, or 20 lbs.).
Seasoned Whole Turkey with garlic, onions, carrots, celery, sage and thyme.
* House-made French-cut Green Bean Casserole with creamed mushroom sauce, topped with crispy
onions (yeah--it's a bit tacky, but who doesn't like it, right?).
* Sliced sweet potato casserole with brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla butter and a touch of spiced
rum; baked with a perfectly crisped marshmallow topping
* The Village Anchor's famous Mashed Potatoes seasoned with garlic, butter and cream with
home-made turkey dripping gravy
* House made crunchy buttered cornbread dressing
* Kevin's holiday spiced Cranberry Sauce with oranges, carrots and a side of candied walnuts
* Fresh assorted french-style dinner rolls
* Grammaw's glazed Pumpkin Pie and spiced pecans for topping (we'd provide the whipped cream,
but don't think it will travel well).

The cost is $20 per person plus tax (please order in increments of 6, 12, 18). Just place your
order by Friday, November 19, so we can have your turkey, and we'll have everything ready for you to pick up on Wednesday, Thanksgiving eve. Everything will be pre-cooked and ready to pop in the oven. It couldn't be easier, and you get to have Cheoffrey (sortof) right in your own kitchen! (Plus, this gives you time to get the house cleaned before everybody gets there.) Call 708-1850 to reserve your Take-Out-Turkey dinner now!

Any word on if Village Anchor will be open for regular service Thanksgiving day? I doubt it, but am hopeful.

We are not doing Thanksgiving at home this year since we are hoping to move into a new house very soon and therefore even buying stuff in isn't really practical, so we are seeking local places to dine. We don't have the $60 per person budget for the big buffes (see also buying a house), so we are hoping for someone to take pity on us for closer to $20 per person.
