Why? Every food you love can easily be made without trans fats, in fact it was for years. None of it will taste different. All of your great food memories pre-date trans fats.Trans fats do not occur naturally. This is not like banning foies gras or something, it's banning a way for large corporations to make more unhealthy food cheaper for them by essentially cutting genetic corners. What's your logic for not wanting a ban here?

I'm just glad that this is the biggest problem Baltimore has to worry about! I guess the economic slowdown isn't effecting them. They must not have any employment or crime problems so we have to find something else to worry about. Unlike smoking where the residual can harm other people this is strictly a personal choice decision. I agree we should be informed what a product contains but after that it should be our choice whether we eat it or not.

I concur. Education regarding Trans-fat and the consumer right to choose. I imagine this ideal has been mentioned in the prior thread.

Isn't that the point though? More often than not it's not remotely related to the consumer.

I'd be careful what I wish for if I were you. Animal fat his pretty high on the busybodies hit list too. Considering the main focus of your business, you should be more concerned than anybody.

I don't have any problem with banning industrialized manufactured fats. If anything, trans fat threatens our way of doing things (non-processed, in house, not messed with). Don't fool yourself, banning trans fat is not remotely comparable to banning an animal fat. They are totally different beasts (no pun intended). Ahem, apples and oranges if you will. I don't buy the slippery slope argument in this case, and I'm not interested in saving some large company the money.

Slippery slope is how it works. What's wrong with letting people choose what they eat without meddlers? And no, fish fried in non-transfat oil does not taste the same, for just one example.

The unnatural argument is not sufficient with respect to transfats either. Preserving food with salt is unnatural. It's an earlier technological advancement than transfat. Should salt be banned or limited also? What it minute! The busibodies are already thinking about it!

They even want to ban potatoes now.

If salt and potatoes aren't safe, why do you think pigs aren't already on somebody's list?

I'll never understand folks who want to force their personal preferences on others through the power of government. Once government has that power, it's only a short time before it screws up something that you like.

That's a rather cynical view of government. Can I guess who you are voting for next week?
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Probably. But my registration is Democrat. I have found the older I get, the more cynical I get about government solutions. I'll leave for you to decide whether it is best explained by geezerdom or wisdom.
