10/24/10 Sunday Brunch

by Corey A » Wed Oct 20, 2010 10:50 am

Any suggestions for brunch this coming Sunday? I'll be in town for my birthday and would like to start the day off right! From what I can gather, Limestone seems to be a solid choice.

I appreciate any help!

RiVue, on top of the Galt House.

If the weather is nice enough to enjoy the outdoors, Captain's Quarters' Sunday buffet has been winning a lot of praise lately.

If you really want to be fancy you could go to the Oakroom! It's pricey but worth it. It doesn't sound like the weather is going to be great but as Robin mentioned Captain's Quarters is also very nice. Another place that we love to go to for brunch is Selena's, unlike the others theirs is from a menu instead of buffet which we personally find more enjoyable.

Now, menu brunches are a whole 'nuther story. Agreed on Selena, but I would also strongly throw 211 Clover into that mix. Michele's on Goss, too. And of course North End Cafe is good for nummy breakfast/brunch dishes any day of the week. Meridian Cafe, too, except I think it's closed on Sundays.

Definitely agree with all those except for Meridian which we've never been to because it is not wheelchair accessible.

That's a problem, all right. I get outraged at places that won't ramp over a single step at the entrance (or at city Inspections, Permits and Licenses, IPL, for placing bureaucratic barriers on top of the physical ones; but it's a real dilemma when you have a family-owned eatery built in a big pre-war house with both front and back porches up a half-dozen steps. Meridian would have room in the front yard for a party-deck style ramp, but it would be costly. Wouldn't it be great if there was a fund available to help family businesses with stuff like that?

Metro does have a loan problem, but frankly these days, a business loan, even one that's pretty low interest, is the last thing I want.

My personal opinion was that Ramsi's Sunday brunch was 5 times better than Limestone.

I think I might opt for the Sunday dim sum at Jade Palace. Authentic Chinese fare would be a brand new experience for me.

It's a lot of fun, Corey, and you can either point at stuff on the carts or order from the photo menu.

Your review of the place helped solidify my decision, Robin. Thanks for that!

It looks like they open at 11:30AM. Would it be better to get there when they open or later in the afternoon?

They're usually pretty busy, but if the crowd dies down the carts seem to come out less often. We usually try to arrive around noon, in time to get a seat and be positioned before it fills up.
