A friend of mine has taken a position at Eiderdown- a new restaurant about to opening in Germantown on Goss. Opening is imminent (possibly this week). Here's a sneak peak at their menu:

Eiderdown ran an ad in this past week's LEO with 10/20 (that's Wednesday) as the opening date. I've also heard that tomorrow will bring a soft opening, which I imagine is invite-only.

I sampled their fare at Brew at the Zoo, and it was great. This is exciting.

Yes, it will be amazing, as they know what they are doing and proved that with the Nach bar, thankfully it's still in germantown so it wont get mobbed by the masses.......

I went to the soft opening last night, and it is fantastic!! The space is beautiful. We tried several dishes. Everything was delicious, but my favorites were the cornbread with bacon honey and the Kentucky country ham sandwich.

Bob and I were the first lunch customers at Eiderdown yesterday. Everything was wonderful. Bob had the stew and I had the KY country ham sandwich with warm German potato salad. His stew was excellent but my sandwich was a fantastic combination of flavors with red onion marmalade, fried egg and yummy mustard on a Blue Dog roll. They had about 20 excellent craft beers on tap and a very well chosen wine list. The decor is very good looking with lots of old poplar on the bar and, I think, the tables. Another great addition to the Louisville dining scene.

I had dinner ar Eiderdown yesterday, and all in all, I think it's a winner. The quality of the food was very good and the atmosphere is great. They have done a lot of work to the building. I think for the neighborhood, the portions are a little small-I have already heard several people say that they thought their dishes were sparse, and I suppose if you are used to eating at Check's or Germantown Cafe, they would seem a little small. While most of the food is made of ingredients that are a higher price point than what the aforementioned eateries use, I would think things like say, beer cheese could be offered more generously. It was packed at 8:30 last night!

I had dinner there on Saturday night with 5 other people and we all really enjoyed it (some more than others.) My wife is a vegetarian and was a little skeptical of the place going in. But she got the Mullgatwany sandwich and she couldn't stop raving about it. Two people got the trout salad, and I have to say that it was one of the most unusual dishes I've ever seen. (It's a "salad" but it doesn't have any greens.) One of the people liked it but the other thought it was a little light on trout. I got the Daddy's Dainty which was a "German bologna" sandwich. The bologna looked more like meat than any bologna I've ever seen and it tasted great. (I guess this is what bologna looked like before Oscar Meyer got a hold of it.) The sandwich was little small, but I didn't mind. My only complaint was that the bread was very dry and crumbly. It was an unusual bread so I couldn't tell if it was stale or if it was supposed to be that way. We also ordered the black eyed peas hummus as an appetizer. The hummus was fantastic, but again the bread served with it was really dry and stale seeming. I loved the atmosphere of the place and the service was very friendly. And it has a fantastic beer list. (The wine list looked kind of long--but I didn't pay much attention to it.) All in all, I'm looking forward to going back.

I went for dinner last night and thought it was awesome. Had the beer cheese of the day (made with a sierra beer that I can't remember and gruyere), which was served with Blue Dog baguette slices. My dad had the country ham sandwich, described already by Carol. Dad's a bit of a red dog with a palette and thought it was delicious. I agreed. I had the carrot and ricotta ravioli, which was served in a slightly sweet and savory dark broth and matchstick carrots. Very interesting! I think I knew 90% of the people there, too, both working and dining - and they were all people I genuinely like so that's always a plus :-). Congrats to Heather and James! And thanks for accepting my bone head dad with smiles :-).

I ate lunch at Eiderdown on Sunday. I had the beer cheese, split the trappist salad, and had the Kentucky country ham sandwich as my main. All were great, especially the ham sandwich, which I could eat every Sunday for brunch (it has a big fried egg on it). Also had two pours of Three Floyds Drunk Monk hefeweizen. Only wish they had a full liquor license, because a bloody mary first, followed by beer, is my Sunday routine. Eiderdown is a short walk from my house, and is reasonably priced good food, so I'm sure I'll be there fairly often.

Had dinner there last Friday, and it was quite good. The ham sandwich was very tasty, and the beer selection was quite interesting. The potato salad was the only problem I had, it just didn't do anything for me at all. Snagged a copy of the menu and it's followed me to work, so I'll be dragging a few of the therapists that are willing to eat stuff beyond fast food out there for lunch at some point soon.
