Good dinner at Rumors

by Andrew Mellman » Sat Oct 16, 2010 11:42 am

Just wanted to give a plug to a place that has been around forever, does a good job, and hasn't changed it's mission or tried to be what it isn't!

We tried a new appetizer, crab salad stuffed mushrooms. A great way to start, as long as you like cheese & garlic; the flavor of crab was there, but really overpowered. Still good - we finished every bite. Seemed like surimi more than crab, but not sure - in any case couldn't compete with garlic & cheese.

For dinner we shared a small bucket of steamed oysters, a dozen raw oysters on the half shell, and a heaping plate of wings (ordered "hot", just enough to get some tingle without bringing any tears to the eyes). The oysters were extremely fresh. The waitress said that as they had been getting only smaller oysters in, we each got 14 instead of a dozen (for half-shell and steamed).

We left stuffed and happy.

They still do a lot of advertising, and there was never an empty table while we were there. While people were waiting, it appeared to be around a 5 minute wait. Lots of families, lots of noise. Had several well-placed tv's all set to ESPN.

The only problem is that the beer selection appears rather pedestrian.

We just had a good time, really enjoyed the food, and find it a unique place in Louisville. (BTW, a dozen - or in this case 14 - oysters on the half shell were $11.98, same as for steamed . . . try matching that anywhere else in town!)
