Anyone know what's going on with Five Points in Chenoweth Sq? Stopped the other day and it was closed and it looked like it was being remodeled.

It's still quasi-confidential, but I think the word is out that it's going to be Saffron's St. Matthews. 8)

Now it's going to be called Majid's. But knowing Majid it could change again. He's really opening the bar area up and sprucing up the restaurant. Looking for a December 1 opening.

Is this the same shopping center that houses Paul's? (I'm not a frequent visitor to St. Matthews...)

Yes, across the lot from Seafood Connection. It has been 3 or 4 different places over the last few years.

I believe there have been some commonalities of ownership and/or management among several of those places. Call me a cynic, and I have no evidence for this, only a theory; but remembering the rules about how eateries with liquor licenses have to show a certain percentage of food sales to keep the liquor ticket, I halfway wonder if it hasn't been in the habit of reinventing itself every year not long before the ABC audit.

If Majid goes through with the plans he hinted at to me a while back, this one should be killer. The place isn't haunted - Mehrzhad's Indigo Restaurant (prior to Z's) was a big success in this location, and Rick Dissel did well here until he moved out to Prospect, but all the places that have sought to draw people with the bar and hope the food side would find its own level have failed.

My GF's parent's played trivia there on Tuesday nights and we met them up there one evening after trivia and had hoped to get a celebratory bite to eat with a drink - but I looked at the menu and nothing sounded good so we only got drinks... then went somewhere else for dinner.
