Name that (new) Restaurant

by Steve P » Mon Oct 11, 2010 11:46 pm

A couple of months ago there was mention on the forum about a new upscale (micro) chain <gasp> restaurant coming to town. My recollection is that it was some kind of steakhouse. Does anyone remember the name of the place and/or know the status. Thanks.

so what's the boobie prize, when i figure it out? lol
i'm working on figuring this out. it's on the tip of my tongue. :)

No boobie prize...we were just having a conversation about all the restaurants that DON'T get mentioned on the forum (too often) and one thought led to another and I remembered reading something about this (new) place. My recollection is that it is an upscale micro-chain, it's going to be downtown and I want to say it has some kind of a steakhouse motif (but I could be wrong).

YES ! That's it. Thanks Annemarie. A quick Google search revealed they have had a few jobs posted in the past few day, so it would appear they'll be open soon.

Yes, Eddie Merlot's in the Starks building. I pass it each morning on the way to work, and they've basically gutted the first floor and are working hard on it.

Women are target demographic
That’s by design, Humphries said.

Female executives are an important demographic, along with baby boomers with annual salaries of $100,000 and above, he said.

Competitors tend to cater to men, but Eddie Merlot’s has developed “a huge following of females” because of decor, size of portions and non-steak offerings, such as duck and seafood, Humphries said.

“In today’s business world, we go after female professionals.”

Just checked out the menu on their website...Looks pretty good and the prices fall in that "not unreasonable" range. I'm thinking we might bust up to Cincy sometime in the next week or two and check the place out.

Believe this may be location #2 . . . we've been to the first one in Montgomery (suburb of Cincy) . . . it's like a quiet version of Jeff Ruby's - similar aged beef, lots of fresh fish, high pricing, more wine by the glass, spread out tables, expensive. Beef was quite good. Owner had a friend who loved Merlot wine (thus Eddie Merlot).

Personally, I liked Ruby's better; even with reservations, waited around 30 minutes at Merlot's, and then were seated at a table five feet from nearest other table. Yes, nice, quiet, our own space, but the feeling was more like eating on a stage with all the wait staff watching us.

I would put it below Ruby's, but likely above Ruth's, Stoney, and several others (Morton's goes up & down for us).
