sugar free candy question

by Megan Watts » Thu Oct 07, 2010 2:43 pm

I have a friend that is quitting smoking and she's been looking everywhere around town for Sugar Free Lollipops. She has to do a lot of driving and wants something that she can have in her hand, but doesn't want to kill her teeth with the sugar. Any suggestions? We've already tried whole foods and rainbow blossom. Thanks!

The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

You might also try Nuts N Stuff. If they don't have the lollipops, they'll have hard candies. Also Dundee Candies, of course.

Look for xylitol lollipops - it is sugar free and has been added to gum - it has been shown to actually be protective of teeth. I have heard where it can be toxic to dogs, so keep it securely away from pets.

Make sure to look at the actual ingredients of the Sugar-Free candy. Although they may be "sugar free", some contain the dreaded "Aspartame" and other such sweeteners people like to avoid.

Also keep in mind that just because it's sugarfree doesn't mean it's lo-cal.

Thanks for the info. I think she went to Whole Foods and bought the xylitol suckers. I don't think she's worried about calories as much as she's worried about her teeth. She just started Chantix to quit smoking and she drives a lot for work. So she wanted a sucker that she could hold in her fingers while she drove.

Megan,
Please extend to her my best wishes for her success in stopping smoking.
