Hotbytes Potluck Dinner to Benefit Dare to Care - 11/14/10

by Steve P » Sat Oct 02, 2010 5:38 pm

EVERYONE is cordially invited to attend the 2nd (it's becoming) Annual Hotbytes Potluck Benefit Dinner to be held on Sunday November 14th at 4:30pm.

Before getting into the details, we want to extend a special invitation to those of you who have yet to attend any of the offline functions. We know you're out there. We see you lurking, we read your occasional posts and we'd love to have you join us. So please give serious consideration to joining us for an evening of food and camaraderie.

OK...on to the details.

The event will be held on Sunday November 14th at the Cardinal Harbor Pavilion/Clubhouse at the intersection of Cardinal Harbor Way and Kenney Brown Lane in Prospect. Ed will be posting a link to a "Google" map of the location very shortly, so stay tuned. The festivities will begin with a social hour at 4:30pm with food being served at approx. 5:30pm. This years beneficiary will be "Dare to Care" and we are hoping to match the generosity of last years dinner when we raised over $350 dollars in cash and over 1200 individual food items. Please note, while we encourage everyone to bring a dish to pass and to open your hearts and wallets to help those less fortunate, neither of these are a requirement to come enjoy the evening with us.

Now for the minute details.

If you bring any type of dish that must be kept warm PLEASE bring it in either a standard (full or half) sized disposable aluminum serving pan or a self contained electrically powered warming unit (aka "Crock pot").

It is not necessary (and some might argue preferable) to post what particular dish you are bringing. That being said if you do plan to bring a dish, at a minimum, please try to give us some idea as to what type of dish you are bringing (e.g. appetizer, salad, protein, dessert, side dish, bread, etc). Doing so will give everyone some idea of where we stand in terms of the number of dishes in each category.

This dinner is a benefit for "Dare to Care". Should you wish to make a donation...and we hope you will, we will be accepting donations of NON-perishable food items as well as monetary donations (preferably in the form of your personal check). We are in the process of scheduling someone from Dare to Care to pick up all food and cash donations at the conclusion of the festivities.

Looking forward to seeing all kinds of smiling faces on November 14th.

Just as a couple of after thoughts...

Dress is casual.

We will have name tags available at the welcome table (Carla ?)

Please give some consideration to bringing copies of the recipe for your dish on several index sized cards. Last year's potluck was a veritable frenzy of recipe swapping.

It would be great if people could somehow identify their dishes...we'll try and have some "sticky" labels available for you to do so. It's always nice to be able to know who to thank when you enjoy a dish.

If your dish is "Vegetarian" please identify it as such.

OK, I'll go first. :D

Becky is bringing Stuffed cabbage rolls and mashed taters. I'm bringing a really tasty creamed corn side-dish and some kind of meat...likely smoked, knowing me.

BTW, we have a boatload of Chinette plates, solo cups and napkins left over from the last potluck...enough to cover all of our needs, so we'll bring those as well.

Map to N Rose Island Rd and Cardinal Harbour Rd. When you get to the intersection turn left onto Cardinal Harbour Rd then your first right onto Kenny Brown (driveway to the pavilion). Park in the large lot and come on in!

Come one, come all and support a great cause and have a lot of fun, too!

Everyone is welcome to attend, including noisy children.

Looking forward to seeing our old favorites and some new blood as well.

We have a full kitchen with a double oven, two full size refrigerator/freezers and double sink.

Looking forward to seeing all of you.

I didn't realize it was going to be that late on a Sunday afternoon in November. :( Mary and I won't be able to come. We've got a commitment on Sundays from 5-8 for the next couple of months. :( But we'll send a donation and wish everybody well.

My wife and her noisy husband (I call it "fussing quietly") will be there.

By the way, Dare to Care is rated 4 stars by charity navigator. Low admin costs, high benefits to the people who need them.

Dare to Care is a locally founded charity;

" Dare to Care Food Bank was founded in 1971, when a stunned Louisville community was confronted with the horrifying news that right in their own city, on Thanksgiving Day, a nine year old boy had died of starvation." http://daretocare.org/?page_id=30

I'll be there.

I also think this should become our premier event. We all have so much fun. It's such a killer venue. It's for the noblest of reasons. Does it get any better?

Slot me down under 'wildcard.' I'll do something liquid, I'll do something solid. It really just depends upon what I'm up to at the moment.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I have a couple fun ideas for using cans as cooking utensils. It'll totally suck, or be really cool- we'll find out together!

Ok Lord willing I will make this my first event/gathering with you all.I was going to the one in August and my sister had her surgery htat weekend, then I was going to want to go to this newly planned gathering in October but hubby has poo pooed that. This is right up our alley however.
It will be me and hubby and maybe our adult son,who happens to do most of our cooking. I am currently planning on bringing my son's pork loin and mother in law's Banana pudding.

Linda and I will be there for sure. It was a great time last year. I do hope a lot of the folks that post here will try and get by for at least a meet and greet.
