Over priced martini's at Louisville's Grand Hotel!

by John Sanders » Sat Jul 28, 2007 1:28 pm

I'm fairly new to the Louisville scene. I moved here last month from New York city and ive been loving it. I have been to the Seelbach with my boss before I finally moved here. He took me to the Oakroom for dinner and it was a night to remember. Afterwards we had some cocktails in the Old Seelbach Bar and enjoyed specialty drinks made from scratch. Last week I decided to treat some of my clients to the same. After eating at the Oakroom we wondered down the 100year old staircase to the lobby bar and had some drinks. after two rounds of drinks I asked for the bill. I was SHOCKED to say the least. for 3 guys to have two rounds, it coast over $100. $17 for a GREY GOOSE MARTINI. I coudn't believe it. It was almost cheaper for dinner. Being from New york I still coudn't understand the prices. No offense but we are in downtown Louisville, not Manhatten. Is this average for martini's in Louisville?

Surely that had to have been a mistake... I would think $10 for a martini at the most and that is high end, but I might be mistaken. Maybe they accidentally up-charged twice. Did you ask them about it?

Of course. I had to ask about it because it did seem wrong. They apologized and told me thats how much they charge. I kindof felt sorry for our server because She said people ask about it all the time and im sure she didn't do the pricing. I wonder if they changed it yet. i left a complaint with the manager. Other than the price it's a neat little bar with great cocktails and live music.

John,

Particularly from a Louisville perspective, I'd consider that extremely high. I'd expect a martini in a white table cloth place around here to be $10-$12 max. That seems really odd to me: I've been to the Oakroom bar several times for drinks and don't remember their prices being out of line at all, but I then again, I didn't drink martini's.......

I dont remember the Oakrooms prices being that high. I think it was just for the Old seelbah Bar.
