From a Potable Curmudgeon blog posting:

Sergio's World Beers an unlikely Shelbyville mecca ... but it is.

I think I need to get out there really, really soon.

holy shit.

that is by far the craziest beer list i've seen outside of Rich O's.

i'm actually surprised at how many of those i've had.

(i gave up counting when i started getting into the 300+ range sometime last year)

seems like a kinda weird little place.

I put vegetables in your desserts, white chocolate with your fish and other nonsense stuff that you think shouldn't make sense, but coax the nonsense into something that makes complete sense in your mouth. Just open your mind, mouth and eat.

Sergio's has been open for only nine months, and it's been 15 years for us (or 20, depending on how it is counted), and I suppose the thing that impressed me the most about my visit was the same sort feeling people used to have coming to visit Rich O's, and hopefully sometimes still do.

Sergio's has the same vibe you might find in the office of your favorite mentor college prof, with lots of beers standing in for lots of books, a bit disheveled, but testimony to passion on the part of the proprietor. Eccentric for sure, but reams of knowledge and love openly displayed.

It's that work-in-progress, rough around the edges feel. Now that we're an "institution" of sorts, it's a retro feel to go to Sergio's and see something embryonic and staged for a good future.
