this is the best deal in a long time 90% off certificates.
get them while their HOT...

Thanks. There is a Deals and Spiels Forum for this type of announcement.

How is it even possible for a restaurant to make money with something like this? Crazy. I mean, it's not. I understand customers like a deal but, personally, I couldn't buy or use something like this.

too good of a deal to pass up and wanted people to know of it.

I understood your motivation perfectly, Annemarie.

Unfortunately, I've gone to the site and it seems to be bogged down so couldn't see any of the deals.

It has nothing to do with New York. I was born and raised there, still have family there. It has everything to do with the voracity with which you post the deals. The whole reason you were given your own forum in which to post your deal of the day is volume. I appreciate your need to share such bargains with us, but they are off topic for the restaurant forum.

You pay restaurant.com the $1, not the actual restaurant. In return for your $1, you get a "coupon".

E.g. $25 off when you spend $35.

So you are getting $35 dollars worth of food for $10, probably close to the restaurant breaking even. The coupons usually don't include alcohol or weekend dining. Therefore, in theory, the restaurant is getting a new customer to try their place on an off night and might even make a buck or two. The server is happy because he/she is getting an 18% tip on the pre-discounted check on what might have otherwise been an empty table.

Actually, David, I'm going to have to come down on Annemarie's side on this one. It's Restaurants.com - sort of on topic by definition, n'est-ce pas? Personally, I don't do coupons, but I can understand and respect Annemarie's decision to post this exceptional, restaurant-related deal on the main forum, with the understanding that it's an exception. Fair enough?

I do feel a bit entitled as a contributing member of this forum since 2004, not 2007 when it moved from text to its current format.

While we are on the subject. WE DO NOT TAKE RESTAURANT.COM COUPONS!!!!!!! or any others for that matter. They gave us a two week trial period to try them out and we decided not to participate. They continued selling coupons and customers still call and come in with Shady Lane Coupons. We are a little more than pissed at having to explain every time what transpired. We have called and begged to be taken off the list. I believe they will exchange them for other restaurants, but we are not sure. Sorry. Bill and Susi Smith. Shady Lane Cafe

I guess that is good and bad to know. I had purchased a Shady Lane Restaurant.com coupon awhile back. DW and I almost used it last week, but we got tied up and just grabbed some tacos at Mi Patria. Looks like I will contact rest.com for an exchange.

Bill and Susi, I also recall having another coupon for Shady Lane. It might have been part of a fundraising tool for some local schools. I believe that it has expired...was it legit?

Thanks. DD
