A while back, when we discussed the loss of Louisville's major banks to national corporate chains and I was whining about one of the last old-line survivors, Stock Yards, showing what looked to me like a significant decline in customer service, a couple of you recommended I look at the new Eclipse Bank, which is open for business while building its new headquarters on the site "where the St. Matthews White Castle used to be."
We met and talked with the bank's principals and staff and, over time, have ended up moving all our business and personal accounts there. We're delighted with their courtesy and service, not to mention an excellent array of banking options.
All this is leading up to an on-topic "foodie" point: Because their building under construction is on such a landmark site, the Eclipse folks are having a lot of fun working White Castle into their promotions.
Accordingly, they're looking for stories from old-timers about your experiences at this particular Aluminum Tower. Here's their formal invitation:
<i>"We miss the old White Castle too. As we begin our story in St. Matthews, we want to honor your memories.
"Email us at whitecastlememories@eclipsebank.net and tell us what made the St. Matthews White Castle so special. Slide back in your memory bank and deposit your stories with Eclipse."</i>
Frankly, most of my WC memories go back to the also gone but not forgotten branch at Bardstown Road and Eastern Parkway, although I do have some semi-printable recollections about the old boy who sold the CJ on that street corner occasionally coming in to the WC on summer days and filling up the place with an aroma that seriously out-stank the sliders, but I'm not sure that's the kind of thing they're looking for.
Anyway, if you've got good stories, please pass them on to the nice people at Eclipse Bank. And, if you like, tack a copy on here, too.
