Need a lunch spot...Ideas?

by Alexis Rich » Wed Sep 29, 2010 5:23 pm

We're teachers and don't get to go out for lunch too often (at all, really) so with our off day on Friday we're going to try something new. The criteria? Where can we go that has a fun lunch that you couldn't get on the dinner menu? Buffets are fun and so are lunch "specials." Talk to me. We're looking to go some place to get food we couldn't get at dinner. There are a billion places like these but nothing is coming to mind. We're pretty adventurous as well.

Does this make sense? Any suggestions?

Any geographical preference? Cost limits?

I had lunch both yesterday and today at Seafood Connection. It's one of my favorite lunch places. Yesterday I had a wild sockeye taco. Today I ordered a halibut taco. Love 'em both.

My daughter and I love the Seafood Connection. We used to go once a week after her Saturday ballet class. Haven't been for about a month. We need to go back. I can't find fish tacos better than what they have there. Be forewarned though. It's a fish shop, not a restaurant. You do sit at the bar or there are a couple tables outside.

Another option is Meridian Cafe. Only open for breakfast and lunch and another favorite of ours.

But then again, I guess a lot would depend on your location.

Oh. I suppose it would have been nice to add a few details. We're located in the Highlands and will travel but not to the far reaches of the city or anything. (Linnig's is out.) Our budget rules out joints like The Oakroom but pretty much anything else is fair game. Although, Friday lunch at The Oakroom is pretty boss. Especially if they still do their bread pudding with leftover Danish.

I LOVE the fish tacos at the Seafood Connection and it's a great suggestion. However, we do plan on sitting down and enjoying lunch. We normally get 15 minutes to eat and the idea of a whole hour is so luxurious I can hardly stand it.

Village anchor has great fish tacos and so does el mundo if you're looking for something like that.

Uptown is my first thought for perfect sit down highlands hour long lunch. Caspian Grill has a good, even if short, lunch menu (next to Days Coffee).

For dowtown, I'd try the Theatre Square Marketplace. You could do a little grocery shopping afterward as well.

Hi Alexis
You could try out my restaurant, Michele's On Goss inside the Goss Ave. Antique Mall at 946 Goss Ave.
We are affordable, relaxing, nice dining room, great food, only open for lunch and brunch and very close to the highlands. You can check our menu and pictures at www.michelesongoss.com.
We'd love to have your group, we do lots of business meetings and ladies luncheons.

Stevens & Stevens behind Ditto's - AWESOME!! but be there between 11-11:15 am for seats...
go through the line, order quick, enjoy. I used to pick up some of the "girls" downtown from 2 different spots and we could have lunch there and be back in plenty of time. It's one of my faves in the Metro 8)

I also like City Cafe - pretty good daily specials

With this gorgeous weather; perhaps, go to Avalon and sit on the patio.

If the patio (out side seating) was the breaker, the nod for me would definitely go to August Moon. And the food is a-one, too.
