La Vida Java Closed

by Eliza W » Sun Sep 26, 2010 5:17 pm

Walked by on my way to another business, and there was a sign in the window stating that La Vida Java has closed. There was another sign saying that coffee is now available at Comfy Cow next door.

So sad they are gone :( Always liked going over there while waiting for Wild Eggs. Last time we were there, a few weeks ago, they had a good number of people in there.

I liked it, too. I suspect they were just a little too close to the Comfy Cow for, um, comfort. Different product, but a similar vibe, and when the Cow blasted off, I'm guessing that it just drew away from Vida Java's business because most people wouldn't bother to go to both places. To be honest, I don't think we ever went back to La Vida Java after the Cow opened.

Also, it was nice enough, but considering that we live within walking distance of Heine's and Blue Dog and almost a walk to Caffe Classico, there wasn't much point in driving out to a coffee shop that was nice but not (in my opinion) quite up to those other options. :(

Very sad- great owners; great product. Really sad to hear it.

I know they were planning to market their coffees wholesale and had a large investment in their roaster on-premise. Issue could have been the wholesale side- not traffic at Westport Village which seemd to really be bringing people in....

From Facebook:

La Vida Java Coffee Company

Dear Beloved LVJ Customers and Friends: We are saddened to tell you that we have had to close our doors. Due to the economic downturn, we could not produce enough capital to keep the business running at Westport Village. We will miss all of you and the chance to "WELCOME"! you to the store. Thank you for "Living Life, Having Fun and Drinking Coffee" with us. David and Terri

I agree with Robin. Comfy Cow and La Vida Java were similar in offerings. Although, I have to say that the fresh-roasted coffee (on site, I might add!) was far superior at La Vida Java than the "swill" they are serving in Comfy Cow, right now. Is nothing sacred?? :?

James, You just joined today and your first two posts are to take a shot at Comfy Cow. Are you a disgruntled ex-employee?

Deb hit the nail on the head. I think the roaster alone cost around $40k. Im sure the rent is through the roof plus, I feel a indie style coffee shop does better in a "walking" neighborhood. I live close to Westport Village but I think of it as a driving destination.

Two posts, two different threads, both critical of the same place, that is a jab sir.

Wait a minute, "swill" is MY word.

The proof's in the grind. Exactly what swill is this?
