Flanagan's and LCBW

by Ashley Isaacs » Tue Sep 21, 2010 2:25 pm

Our kickoff for Louisville Craft Beer Week is this Thursday, September 23rd with a Goose Island Invasion! We will have 11 Goose Island Brews on tap, including several brew-pub specials and never-before-seen in Louisville ales! We will have representatives and brewers from the brewery here for a meet and greet and to answer any questions that you may have. It's going to be an amazing event that you don't want to miss out on! The list is as follows:
312 Urban Wheat Ale, Harvest Ale, Honker’s Ale, India Pale Ale, Matilda, Sofie, Pere Jacques, Bourbon County Brand Stout, Bourbon County Brand Coffee Stout, and Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout.

As for Louisville Craft Beer Week, Monday, September 27th should start the week off right with a Beer and BBQ pairing. You will get to choose 3 out of 5 different kinds of BBQ which will be paired with different Scotch/Scottish Ales, including special brews from both Upland and Schlafly! The menu is as follows:
The food (choose 3):
Cajun Style BBQ Shrimp
Sweet Thai Chicken BBQ
Traditional pulled BBQ Pork
Baby Back Ribs rubbed with a sweet hot rub
Beef Brisquet with a sriracha BBQ sauce
The Sides will be home-style green beans, southern style cornbread, and our cranberry coleslaw

The Beer (3)
Schlafly 80 Shilling - Pale, Biscuit, Caramel, Aromatic, Special "B" malts Tettnanger hops in the boil, no aroma hops. 4.3% abv, 21 IBUs
Upland Banshee - This brew has a rich maltiness that is highlighted not only by caramel malts, but also by a long kettle boil for strong carmelization effects. A cold fermentation and minimal hop content emphasize a full bodied, chewy mouthfeel. 7.9% ABV, 26.2 IBUs
Three Flyods Robert the Bruce - A big malty body from chocolate and roasted malts, well balanced with just the right combination of hops. Robust yet smooth, a true malt-lover’s delight. 6.5% abv
Arcadia Scotch Ale - A lovely and deep garnet color is joined by the aroma of plums and toffee in this unique and special ale. Brewed with Maris Otter malted barley from Crisp Maltings, Ltd. in England, the rich and full-bodied feel of this beer brings out flavors of caramel and roasted chestnuts, which is balanced with a clean and crisp alcohol finish, and just the right amount of lingering hop bitterness. 7.5% abv
Founders Dirty Bastard - Founders flagship beer. Dirty Bastard is an absolute beautiful beer to behold. Dark ruby in color and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts this beer continuously lives up to its reputation as a bold and powerful ale. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness, finalized with a good bit of hop attitude. This beer “ain’t fer the wee lads.” 8.3% abv
This event will be $25 and you can come in any time from 6:00 - 9:00. If you are interested in participating in this event, please email ashley@louisvilleirishpubs.com by Thursday, Sept 23 with the number of people in your party, and the choices for all of the members in your party. We need to have an exact number so that our chefs will be able to properly prepare for the event.

The next night, Tuesday, Sept. 28th at 8:00 will be our Beer and Ice-cream night! This is one event I am really excited about! For $15 you will get 4 different kinds of ice cream paired with 4 different brews. You will receive 3-4 oz portions of each ice cream and 6 oz of each beer. Here are the descriptions:
1. Upland Wheat with lemon, lime, and orange sherbert with fresh raspberries over a thin slice of angel food cake.

2. Three Philosophers Quadrupel with smooth vanilla ice-cream with big chunks of fresh cherries and dark chocolate.

3. Rogue hazelnut with vanilla ice-cream loaded with pecans candied with brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg and topped with caramel.

4. BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout with creamy vanilla bean ice-cream mixed with bourbon and topped with hard shell chocolate and sprinkled with crushed
pretzels.
Our Beer and Ice-cream night will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 28th at 8:00. Please email me by Thurs, Sept. 23 so that we can properly prepare for the correct amount of people!

The following night, Wednesday, Sept. 29th is our Pumpkin and Pumpkin Night! Join us at any time that evening for a huge selection of Pumpkin Ales and delectible Pumpkin food specials including our famous Pumpkin Fingers! We will have Schlafly Pumpkin, Dogfish Punkin, O'Fallon Pumpkin, Buffalo Bill Pumpkin, New Holland Ichabod, and Brooklyn Pumpkin. If you like pumpkin brews, this is a night you don't want to miss!

The following Thursday, September 30th starting at 7:00, is a Left Hand Pint Night! We will have three beers on draft and one cask, all with different glassware! That means you can get a Polestar Pilsner, Haystack Wheat, Nitro Milk Stout, and 400 lb Monkey and get different glasses with each! This is going to be an exciting week. Hope to see you here!

The Goose Island takeover is definitely a marquee event in my book; will these be going on midday, or is there a special tapping timeframe? My tastebuds are going to be exhausted due to all of the BCB and Belgian-inspired ales being on simultaneously.

Goose Island 312 will be tapped at 7:00 and the first 140 people get to keep their glass. At 8:00 we will tap the Harvest ale, and the first 120 people get to get their glass with that one as well. All of the rest of the brews, they should be up and running by 6:00 and will be available while supplies last for the rest of the evening.

As for the Left Hand Cask, it will be 400 lb Monkey. I can't wait to try it on cask!

What will the serving sizes be for the Pumpkins? Pint and half-pint? Possibly flights?
Thinks the frosty mug is the low point in American history.

Wow, the Goose Island night was a lot of fun. Finally got to try the Pepe Nero, Bourbon County Vanilla and Coffee Stouts, and a sample of a buddy's regular Bourbon County Stout.

Realized the regular BC Stout was still not something I'd like to drink, while the Vanilla was pretty good, and the Coffee was damn tasty, although I was glad that was the one I ended the night with, as it was an incredibly potent beer. The Pepe Nero was definitely different, but I think I'm going to need to try it again without blowing out my tastebuds with a big stout beforehand to see how it really is. Spent a chunk of the evening talking with people from Goose Island, and all in all it was quite a fun event. Definitely a good way to start craft beer week.

Glad you had a good time Josh! What a great turnout. I also LOVED the BC Vanilla.

As for the Pumpkin Night, the Dogfish, Schlafly, and Brooklyn will be served as pints. And you can do flights containing those three. The Ichabod, Buffalo Bill, and O'Fallon will be bottles.
