Cottage Inn change of owners?

by Leah S » Fri Jul 27, 2007 2:54 pm

Did I miss this? I've been informed that the owners of Mr. Z's has purchased and is moving to the Cottage Inn property on Eastern Parkway. That's all I "know."

I would triple check that, Leah. That would be akin to the Oak Room moving into an abandoned Shoney's. I would hope that is a false flag.

I was thinking the opposite. The folks that served me cold corned beef hash out of a can moving into the fried chicken haven.

I was thinking more in terms of the space, not the food.

Ed, are you sure you're not thinking of Z's Oyster Bar and Steakhouse? I assume Leah is speaking of Mr. Z's, a nice little Bosnian-owned diner at Second or Third and Breckinridge.

That said, I would hate to see Cottage Inn lose its current situation - it's one of the oldest continuously operated restaurants in town, contemporary with Kaelin's, I believe, and they're contenders for the best fried chicken in the region.

Mr. Z's is a friendly place, makes a nice diner breakfast comparable to the Twig & Leaf when it was in its prime, but it's a pretty good demographic fit with Cottage Inn ... blue-collar, down-home fare. I think they may have a couple of Bosnian options at lunch, but it's mostly all about meat loaf and stuffed peppers and greens and such. ;)

I was thinking of Z's Oyster Bar & Steakhouse and that was what was confusing me. Would be a great step up for Mr. Z but a terrible loss for fried chicken lovers everywhere.

No silly Ed, not Z's Oyster Bar. Robin had it right. I heard it from a really regular diner who swears its true. Should happen it a few days if its true, so we'll know for sure.

It's true! Mr. Z is moving into Cottage Inn. I wish the best for him. He and his wife are delightful people.

When is this going to place? And I'm guessing the fried chicken won't be the same. :o(

For what its worth-

Cottage Inn opened last week under the ownership of the Mr. Z's folks. Ate thgere Sat. night and they were slammed. The fried chicken is every bit as good as people were concerned about. Good luck to Mr. Z & co.

Cottage Inn--changes

by kathy m » Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:34 pm

A group of 4 went to Cottage Inn for supper last Thursday ; the interior remodeling seems to be the only major changes --the chef has been retained, and the menu is the same !

The new owners are Bosnian, and our waitress said they're considering adding some ethnic dishes later on. She also said the the downtown location ("Mr. Z's") will close.
