Lovely Dinner at Varanese

by Bill Veneman » Mon Sep 20, 2010 12:52 pm

OK, this was one of those weekends that I couldn't get my act together as hard as I tried. I got everything done that I wanted to do, and came time for Sunday dinner and I didn't feel like cooking.

So, I headed up Frankfort Avenue, which is one of my favorite things to do on a lazy Sunday. And arrived at Varanese for a wonderful dinner.

Arriving just shortly before 7:00, the crowd was just starting to gather, and the place was opened up enjoying the wonderfully pleasent evening. Jazz lofting about, conversations around. Very festive.

Service was excellent, as would be expected. Alex was right on cue. Didn't phase her in the least that I was a one-top dining alone. Very attentitive, and very friendly, without being intrusive on my solitude.

Food was incredable. I started out with John's famous Calamarri.....now, I should have stopped there....I had forgotten how large (and addictive) the dish is. But, I had also ordered the Mahi Mahi, which was perfection. Excellently done, flakey, moist, and flavorful. The Sweet Potatos served with were wonderfully sweet and gave a nice departure from the savory of the fish.

OK, at this point, I passed on dessert. I couldn't have another bite if I had wanted to.

Dinner, with a cocktail, and tip was a very reasonable $42. No wonder I love this place!
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!
