Late Night Dining in Indy?

by TanyaD » Fri Jul 27, 2007 7:13 am

I'm going to a concert in Indy tomorrow night and was wondering if Indy has any places like we have (i.e., Twig & Leaf, Barbara Lee's, Cafe 360, etc.) where one can go get a bite around 2 am. We'll be on Illinois Ave, which according to the map is a little north of downtown. Thanks!

The only place I've ever eaten late at night in downtown Indy is The Slippery Noodle Inn, 327 S Meridian St. Their website says they serve until 2 AM on Saturdays. Menu runs the whole gamut from nachos to filet mignon.

But - oy vey, what great music they have there. It's like Stevie Ray's, with a restaurant in it.

I haven't eaten there for several years; I'm not vouching for the food quality, but the menu looks sufficient for 2 AM.

Is your concert at the Melody Inn by any chance? If it is, then the location is at 38th and Illinois. That is not the greatest area late at night to put it mildly. I would not walk around looking for a place to eat at that hour. You're likely safe when the show lets out as there will be a crowd, so don't let me scare you. It is probably best to describe the area as "transitional". The venue is cool, by the way.

Your best late night dining option is likely a conveniently located Steak and Shake. If you are determined to try something local, you might try heading to Broad Ripple (follow Illinios north to past 56th St. where you will hit Westfield Blvd. Turn right on Westfield and stay until you hit College Ave - you can't miss it). It's a pretty cheesy bar district and I don't know what is in the area now, but with that many bars, there has to be someplace to eat.

Melody Inn

Yup, it was at the Melody Inn (great concert!). After discussing it with several locals, we decided our best (and safest) bet was good old Steak n' Shake on the way home.
