Comfy Cow: True Blood Orange Saffron

by JustinHammond » Wed Sep 08, 2010 6:48 pm

Has anyone had this yet? I tried it yesterday and was totally underwhelmed, no orange or saffron to be found. It tasted like raw cake batter to me. Is "The Cow" slippin?

I hate to question The Cow, as the salted caramel is still my favorite ice cream ever, but what gives?

Demand increases, quality decreases?

Has quality decreased or you just don't like this offering (big difference)?

That is why there is a ?. I don't know the answer, but this last offering is not good.

Coincidentally, Mary and I were just over there - we were in the area for a committee meeting (that place is temptaciously close to St. Matthew's Episcopal), and dropped by. She saw the sign, asked for a taste and decided to pass because, in her words, "It didn't have any flavor at all."

I really don't think that's the issue, Justin. The Comfy Cow guys are ice cream geniuses, passionate about what they do. My guess: They experiment a lot. Out of 100 experiments, a certain percentage don't ring the bell. I can't honestly expect them to toss an experiment that doesn't work out, but that's why they gladly offer tastes before you buy.

I think The Cow is mooing just fine :) Got some ice cream about 2 weeks ago and it was awesome as usual. I haven't tried this flavor though, and honesty, I'm not sure I would! It doesn't sound appealing to me personally.

Via Facebook:

Okay True Blood fans. Today is the day to sink your teeth into an amazing new taste treat, True Blood Orange Saffron. One bite is worth a thousand words and you will be transformed for eternity.

Robin, this is my issue. I have no problem with experimentation, but if it sucks, don’t serve it and defiantly don't promote it as a life changing experience.

I can't defend that. I actively dislike PR hype, and have to waste an unreasonable amount of time rewriting news releases from PR firms that don't understand how much editors dislike being manipulated. But I digress ...

I think they left the orange and saffron out, so you should be ok.

Justin,

We're sorry you disliked both the ice cream and our advertising copy. As Robin mentioned, we do offer tasting samples so please take advantage of that in the future. Tim and Roy are dedicated to serving a quality product and stand behind everything they sell. If you find one of the flavors off-putting, please mention it while you're in the store so if there's a problem it can be corrected.

I buy all my ice cream by the pint, so I wasn't in the store when I ate it. I thought maybe it was just me that didn't like the flavor, that is why I asked if anyone else had tried it. I have no problem with any advertising as long as the product lives up to it.

Just was shocked how much flavor this ice cream lacked when compared to all the other greatness I have tasted at The Cow. I'm sure I'll be back for next months new flavor.
