Seems like every city I've ever lived in has one of these "Best of" polls and in very general terms I find them to be more B.S. than anything else. When it comes to food categories they do a poor job of identifying the the "Best" of anything, and instead simply identify either the most popular <insert category> or the person/s or business who can stuff the most ballots.

Criticism aside, I did go online and cast a few votes in this one. Interestingly, it appears the site only accepts one round of voting per day from an each individual computer...So perhaps the practice of ballot stuffing, so common in these people's choice type things, might be mitigated to some degree.

Nah. Just clear your cache/cookies after each voting session. Then you'll be able to vote again and again and again...

Ballot stuffing is (in my mind) the ONLY way Wicks ever won for best pizza...

This from Facebook...and a perfect example of how/why these "Best of" polls are so bogus. Just MHO.

Village Anchor "Pub & Roost"
Reminder if you haven't done this: PLEASE Vote for The Village Anchor in Leo Magazine's Reader's Choice Awards! We're getting close to the top of the list, so Please nudge the Village Anchor over the top by voting for us in any of the various categories. Go to the link below and pick at least 10 categories where you think the Vill...age Anchor excels. Best Burger, Best Restaurant, Best "new" restaurant, Best Outdoor Dining, best chef, best interior, best dessert (banana pudding) are some suggestions. You can vote every day and your vote is important!! And you have to vote in at least 10 categories or it boots you. You also have to navigate to two different sections (like dining and/or entertainment) before it calculates your 10 votes. http://leoweekly.com/readers-choice/bestof/5 Your time doing this is very much appreciated!

First thought: Why is Steve P friends with Village Anchor?

Justin,

I don't have anything against the place...I'm sure we'll try it again sometime soon...My previous posts regarding this establishment were based on observations from one (aborted) visit and I can't recall ever forming a hard and fast opinion of anything based on one visit. If our next visit is more pleasant, you can bet I'll post it.

As for this particular post, I would have made the same post were the source Seviche, Papplino's, Five Guys...or whoever. I just don't think being "voted" a "Best of" should come down to a marketing campaign.

I'll go one step farther Steve. I think if any restaurant is caught marketing for one of these awards they ought to be disqualified! Also restaurants with multiple locations should compete separately. I know that Mark's feed store has won several times but they won based on a total of votes for all locations.

There is a catagory on the last page that you can write in a catagory they didn't think of for "best of". It would be funny if we all wrote him in for "best former beer writer". I wonder if they would print that!?

Hey, it's not all that bad a bashing. She merely said LEO wouldn't send a beer writer to cover a Bridges Authority meeting. I replied:

"But the non-authority conclave was so much like I’ve always imagined Anheuser-Busch board meetings to be. All I’d have to do is substitute “buy-state authority” for “monopolistic swillocracy,” and it would read just the same.

"In fact, the only two beers on tap at Kye’s are Miller Lite and Bud Light. Coincidence? I think not. It would have been worse had they actually been pouring. The bar was closed. Fortunately, I had my handy flask."

LEO's okay, and I agree with it most of the time. I just wish the beer writer had the same license to be truthful as the other writers, that's all.
