White Castle cookies benefit Kosair Children's Hospital

White Castle cookies benefit Kosair Children's Hospital

"You want a cookie with that?"

Next time you stop by your friendly Chateau Blanc for a ration of sliders, consider adding a couple of cookies to your sack. You'll get a tasty addition to your meal and help a worthy cause.

Although cookies aren't normally part of the White Castle bill of fare, the 29 White Castles in Louisville and Southern Indiana are offering them through Sept. 1 to benefit Kosair Children's Hospital.

Visit your local White Castle today to get your chocolate chip or snickerdoodle cookie – just $1!

Proceeds from the sale of the cookies will go to Kosair Children's Hospital through the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Kosair Children's Hospital serves more than 103,000 children annually from throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana, and is Kentucky's only full-service, freestanding pediatric hospital.

As a regional facility that treats all children regardless of the family's ability to pay, the hospital relies on support from the community. The Children's Hospital Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Kosair Children's Hospital, and raises millions of dollars each year to support programs, equipment and facilities, research, advocacy and education. In 2006, funds raised by the foundation exceeded $7.6 million.

Kosair Hospital

by todd richards » Tue Jul 24, 2007 6:43 pm

I would ask that everyone support this post. My son had heart surgery there just two weeks ago and they treated us like royalty. He is doing very well.
The hospital itself is a great facility but insurances are not quickly to pay nor do they the amount that hospital charges (at least that is what the staff told us). I do not know why nor really care. I am just asking that people support the staff that help made it possible for my son to be here and doing very well.

Todd, thanks for the testimony. I'm delighted to support this cause, and if the benefit cookie gives me an extra incentive to go enjoy the guilty pleasure of a few Sliders, I'm okay with that.

I'm glad to see White Castle getting involved in a local project like this, and I say good for them.

Best wishes to your son, too!

Todd,

We too had a child at Kosairs (Aiden when he was 6 months old due to a staph infection he picked up from minor surgery ) and could not have been more impressed by the facities and STAFF at Kosairs. They were incredible!!!! So glad to hear yours is okay now (every parent's nightmare).

I never acquired the taste for sliders, but you bet I'll be supporting the cookie sale!

In the spirit of this thread I think it is worth noting that Proof on Main donated all of their proceeds for the sale of gelati and sorbetti for the month of July(national ice cream month) to Kosair and the Louisville Deaf Oral School. They also hosted an ice cream social for Louisville Deaf Oral at Proof and delivered ice cream to the children who were patients at Kosair.

Another nice action, although from the editor's desk, I have to notice that when White Castle did it, we got a discreet inquiry from Kosair asking if we could help with publicity. When Proof did it, we were bombarded with PROOF IS SO GENEROUS AND WONDERFUL YOU MUST WRITE ABOUT THIS news releases from a PR firm.

It's not something the public would notice, but the difference was significant, and it leaves a very different taste in the editor's mouth.

I wonder if the ice cream left a very different taste in the childrens' mouths?

Probably not. Did I suggest otherwise?

Okely-dokely!

Actually, it would have been nice if they threw the kids an ice-cream party. I wonder if Proof did that, in addition to donating money from the sale of ice cream.

Okay, good for them. I still say that their heavy and rather amateurish PR offensive aimed at making sure they got publicity out of it really did take the edge off their generosity, though.

We recently moved to Germantown from the Highlands and now my boyfriends thinks we need to eat White Castle every other day because it's so close. I did get one of the cookies last week have to say that it was really delicious and it's an easy way to support this cause.

Robin, at that rate, daily or every other, if we all did that, I doubt we'd need to import any more oil for fuel.
