Could anyone tell me about the Big Ol' Backyard BBQ?

by Ginger Harris » Fri Aug 27, 2010 12:06 pm

I have never been. What is it like? Is it kid friendly? Is the Home of the Innocents worth supporting?

We are officially supporting it as a media partner (note the randomly appearing square public-service ad in the upper-right corner of the forum page), and I can assure you that Home of the Innocents is a legitimate, excellent organization that serves the important public purpose of caring for and providing programs for youngsters left parent-less by abuse, abandonment, parents going to jail and lots more of those ugly realities of modern life.

I tear up thinking about this one...

They are as important as such a thing can be. Blessed are those that throw thier hats in this ring.

I participated in last year's event and, like many of these things, went in with the confidence of a person who felt I was 'walking with' these kids.

Then I spoke with one. My life changed. I know nothing of what these kids have gone through and I think they deserve all that we can give them.

So- go, please.

EDIT: Designed for both kids and adults, the youngins will have a blast! They do a bunch of little tents that are designed for kids' amusement.

Home of the Innocents is also the only pediatric nursing home in KY for those kids that have so many health issues they cannot be cared for at home. They also run group homes for youths and mentor and assist foster parents. I know several staff members there and they are very dedicated people.
