Frankfort Ave. Trolley Hop - "Must Sees/Eats/Dos" ?

by Greg R. » Fri Aug 27, 2010 9:59 am

The Trolley Hop is tonight as many of you know. I rarely get the opportunity to partake even though I live in the 'hood, but tonight it's on! I usually hoof it from Kennedy down to around Varanese stopping for a cocktail here and there along the way and then have a nice dinner and wine at the bar. 11 years living in Crescent Hill and II have never actually been on the Trolley (!) so what am I missing out on deeper into town? What are your favorite "Must Dos" along the route - both food and shopping? I am anxious to hear about other peoples "traditions". Looks like it is going to be a beautiful evening to take it all in!

I really like to visit the Mellwood Arts Center for local arts and crafts.

Stop and check out Eyedia and then be sure to stop for a slice of deliciousness from Sweet Surrender.

North End Cafe, Maido, Bourbons Bistro, Varanese, J. Gumbo's, DiFabio's, Irish Rover, The Wine Rack, Fat Jimmy's, Heine Bros. Coffee, Carmichael's bookstore, Just Creations, Porcini, Blue Dog ... I know I'm missing a bunch.

That's the beauty of the trolley hops for me. Yes there are the go to places, but some places, that I might not be the demographic, it allows me to poke my head in and try.
(I'll never forget years ago Mike and I went to a bar on Bardstown Road - I think the clock was stopped at the time the tornado hit - everyone stopped and looked at us as we opened the door. The other place was a bar farther out Bardstown Road - same thing:-)
El Mundo. If you can't get a table up, down, out back, whatever, at least have a margarita to enjoy the atmosphere. You can drink it while standing outside on the side walk - just can't go to far! They'll get you for that - ABC regs I'm sure. Also, don't pull a chair up to the small table - blocks the sidwalk - city of Louisville reg I'm sure.
We're going to the Whole Foods and have a beer while we buy a couple of things. HH on Friday. It's just fun to have a beer while you shop and it reminds me of the Publix at Watercolor FL.
Next trolley hop. Mike's bday so we want to stop somewhere. Later BBC.

I've never warmed up to that Java, but as for the others, I can't believe I left them out!!

They would certainly be welcome on Frankfort, but I think they might be a better fit on Bardstown. Just sayin' ... 8)

Wow! Looks like a perfect evening is on the way! Good walking weather. I may have to check out the patio at the Grape leaf...never been there, but it looks pretty cool from just walking buy.

Here a link to a page with a list of participating businesses and a map complete with all the trolley stops:

http://fatfridayhop.org/map.html

It looks like I've hit just about everything mentioned here save the Zen Garden. I'm not really a "Zen" type of guy. 8) I was just wondering if I'd overlooked a "must do" or some sort of special I was not aware of. I know Volare does 1/2 price wine at the bar...anywhere else?

Happy Hopping!

Useful reference, but it does leave out quite a few of the places mentioned in this discussion. Maybe it's limited to those that signed up (or paid) to be listed?

It reminds me, though, that Conez and Coneyz is fun. I'm a little less whelmed with It's All Greek To Me, which can be very good or not so good but is never as good as its claim to be "Best in Kentucky." Nuh uh.

If you click through to the map there are nmore places included, but still not exhaustive.

I didn't see Blind Pig mentioned here... it would be a fun stop for a cocktail between visiting Eyedia and Work the Metal.
