Third Avenue Cafe's food is really good!

by Ellen White » Fri Jul 20, 2007 8:05 pm

I just wanted to compliment Third Avenue Cafe on the taste of their food. Their tomato basil soup is delicious (although I personally wish it wasn't creamy, but sometimes I just can't resist), they have a really good grilled cheese (and they will add avocado if you ask them), and their vegan blt is delicious!
I went there for dinner today and decided to try something different. I had never had their "cardinal club" sandwich, so I decided to give it a try. Hey, a club sandwich is always good, right? This one was very good. It had turkey, american cheese, swiss cheese, wonderfully flavorful tomatoes, and tempeh ("soy bacon" substituted for regular bacon). (Even after taking off the american cheese, lettuce, 3rd piece of bread, and scraping off the mayo), it was really one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time.
Also feeling crazy, I ordered the homemade cajun potato chips to go with it. They were addictive!
Of course, my daughter had the black bean and tofu burrito, which is her absolute favorite. And, we shared an appetizer of Jamaican Hummus, which seems to be made from red beans instead of chickpeas. It comes with pita wedges coated with black and white sesame seeds.
We really like the food at this funky, local place.
We also had a really good server today, Jamel.

Third Ave Cafe is one of our regular spots. I also enjoy the bbq tofu sandwich and the vegetarian reuban. I haven't tried cajun fries but the mesquite chips are addicting in a good way.

I finally got there for lunch.....friend recommended it and we went, and MAN I'm glad I did.

Had the Cafe' Burger, and it was perfectly prepped. The homemade chips are the BOMB.

Friend had the special turkey apple sandwich of the day, fries and Gaspacho. All were pronounce delish.

Service was efficient. Atmosphere was funky/cool/unique.

Nice place. Can't wait to try the dinner menu.
If life's a Banquet, what's with all the Tofu?

Cheers!

If they're still serving the black bean burger, that thing is AWESOME.

Nancy and I have been there twice in the past couple of months and really enjoyed it both times. I was a bit concerned about finding things to eat due to my redneck/carnivore palate, but I had no problems. As a previous poster noted, the atmosphere is very eclectic and the service was prompt and professional. We look forward to returning soon. Congrats Chris Lombardo and crew on your success.

I have always enjoyed Third Avenue. I like the wheat berry salad option instead of french fries.

Ever heard of Morningstar Farms? Not too uncommon these days. I think 3rd Ave uses tempeh.
