Aztecas on Frankfort, never never again....

by Brian Taylor Clark » Sun Aug 15, 2010 10:16 pm

My significant other and I decided to have a date night tonight and we were excited about heading to Aztecas. We had been quite a few times when they opened and always left happy, great building, service and food. Not tonight, and honesty I'll never go back.
We got there about 8:15 and knew the kitchen closed at 9:00 so we jokingly told our waitress we promised not to linger all night drinking coffee. We promptly ordered drinks and apps. She decided, although she only had one other two top, to wait 15 minutes hanging out in the kitchen to wait for our queso before bringing out everything together. Waiting 15 minutes in a dead restaurant for our drinks (water, beer)to me is unacceptable. She drops our drinks and queso and we ordered our food with her. That is the last time I saw her until I got my check.
So the queso and salsa arrives and so do about 15 flies that decided to hang out with us the rest of the night (we were inside). We spent the remainder of the time getting them off our food and drinks and swatting wildly into the air.
We both order tacos, her, fish, myself carnitas and bistec with corn tortillas. They came out about 15 minutes later with flour tortillas. I told the female food runner we ordered them with corn tortillas. She half argued with me that they come with flour, to which I reinterated that we ordered them with corn. So we get our food back with and get ready to eat. No server around to check on sent back food anywhere to be found. I get up once to grab napkins from the server stand, a second time for Cholula, and a third for salt and pepper..
The food.......
Rice, bland and disgusting really. The black beans, gelatinous and bland. My tacos, meat dry, chewy and overcooked. Her fish tacos edible, but to her not good enough to even finish. Our server MIA...
We sit around shocked how on all levels our food and service could be that bad. When she finally came around I just handed her my card instead of even waiting for my check to arrive. About 13 minutes later she showed back up. I for the first time in my life whipped out a shiny 1 dollar bill placed it in the billfold and we left.
Have you ever ate a meal and just felt dirty afterwards? That's how we both feel currently. Like almost on the verge of vomiting, yet just plain dirty feeling.
Pre counterpoints?
Why didn't you say anything to management?
For one we both work 70+ hours a week, hadn't seen eachother in nearly two weeks, were too tired to get into the whole thing, and quite frankly there is nothing that in our eyes could have fixed it. Not to mention he seemed way too busy flirting with the hostess.
There are way too many excellent culinary choices in Louisville to even care enough for them to try and fix this or "give them another shot". My gf and I have a combined 12 years in the serving game and have NEVER given below 20%. I give everyone the benefit of the doubt, even when they probably dont deserve it, but this time, I'm not having it. Why not 10% you ask? Well we could be perceived as just cheap... There's nothing like a $1 bill to let you know that you were the worst service I've ever had.

Oh and BTW, I queso was as runny and thin as water.

Rant off......

Just keep an eye on your credit card statement...I always get a little concerned when my card is gone for more than a few minutes...and I've had a server opt to add in a tip even after I'd left cash on the table.

Said it before, this town has too many good options for a place to think they can get by being that bad!

Yuck, what a horrible experience. I've never been, now I doubt I will go out of my way to try it!
