A question for bartenders

by Ellen P » Thu Aug 12, 2010 1:12 pm

We eat out alot, but don't always want to have a alcoholic beverage. You won't mind if we sit at your bar and have a meal and just drink water? Sometimes I just want to drink water - especially in this weather - but we still have to eat. I don't like soft drinks; don't drink iced tea; etc. Also we eat dinner early and don't always want a drink that early. Thanks, Ellen

Ellen, sorry no one responded sooner. I can tell you as a bartender, that I certainly don't mind someone just drinking water (provided you're eating, of course! :-)) From a basic financial standpoint, the way I view it is that I get a lot of people at the bar who only get a couple of cocktails and no food, so someone getting food and no cocktails will still probably increase my check averages for the night. So I personally don't see a problem with it. Thanks for being so considerate, though!!

Thank you for responding. My place of choice is at the bar - especially scoping out a new restaurant. It gives me a chance to look at the prices. I hate to sit down and find out the least expensive entree is $32 with sides extra. I would rather order a appetizer and a drink at the bar. Might return and sit at the bar and avoid the full meal situation.
