Gushing Over Wild Eggs

by Scott Hack » Sun Aug 08, 2010 2:58 pm

Today my girlfriend and I found ourselves on Dutchmans Lane and Breckenridge Lane around time for lunch. I had suggested we head over to O'Charlies and grab some lunch or that they had a brunch menu as well. She didn't seem real excited about that and suggested Wild Eggs instead. We drove over Wild Eggs and people were wrapped around the outside of the building waiting! Glad to see business is doing well :)

The reason for our Sunday morning early adventure was to speak to a loan officer about financing on a new home purchase we are working on... so we decided to head over to the Wild Eggs in Westport Village in honor of the occasion (The area we hope to be moving to) The wait there was for 25 minutes... but the paging system works through out the entire village. So we walked across the street and did some browsing at The Trail Store and then came back to a quick 5 minute wait.

We ordered two great dishes, including leaving the serrano peppers on the side per the server's recommendation -- which was a great idea, I loved the peppers, the GF found them too hot. They even plated the two dishes up separately for us which was a really nice touch. The meal and service were great. The only down fall is that it was hard to justify ice cream after breakfast, so we had to skip out on Comfy Cow :)

We are definitely looking forward to a lot more lazy Sunday mornings at Wild Eggs or ice cream socials at Comfy Cow after the pending move!

That Wild Eggs has proven to be consistently good on food and service, only downfall is the insane crowds sometimes, but it is sooo worth it! Next time stroll over to the Java La Vida Coffee House next door to Comfy Cow, good coffee makes the wait go so much faster! The store on the other side, Green Earth (?) is pretty interesting too!

I have some friends with young children that live near the Westport Wild eggs.
On Sundays the husband will go to WE put their name on the list, get a pager, and go home!

When the pager goes off, they get in the car (sometimes go near the end of the approx wait time), and head over to the restaurant. Hasn't failed yet. The kids continue to play or get ready in their own home, and then head right to a table! LOL!

My first visit to WE was this past Derby Day morning, and we had a (surprisingly) short wait of about 20 minutes. Despite being (a little) pricey for breakfast, everything was well-prepared and very tasty -- my Eggs Benedict were excellent. The fresh-squeezed OJ is also a nice addition. During our wait, a couple of "refugees" stumbled in from the (then) new IHOP on Hurstbourne Lane and complained of a 70+ minute wait just to get seated, so they opted for WE.

WE offers a very creative breakfast menu, and is worth an occasional visit -- just be prepared to wait for a table (especially during weekends).

I'll preface to say I'm not a huge fan of breakfast. We've been to Wild Eggs 3 or 4 times...the food is really good and well prepared and service has always been fine; but on the other hand, IMO it's exprensive

Speaking only of the Dutchmann's location, I've had only so-so service in 4-5 visits. Prob has something to do with dining alone. Just rather slow in terms of attentiveness and responsiveness.

They always try to sit my at the breakfast bar, and I always refuse. I tend to bring schoolwork, so I like having space.

I only go during the week and try to get there right at opening.

I adore WE......now I especially like it at 1:00 on Sunday after a Saturday night out 8)

I've yet to have anything but raves for the food, service, and fun of the place. Always leave with a smile!

I went for the first time a couple weekends ago and found it be quite good. My order was a Havarti and Chorizo Omelet with Skillet Potatoes, but can not remember what my partner had to eat. We arrived @10:30 , waited 25 minutes , and had excellent service from a very attentive although not overbearing server. Breakfast is one of my favorite food groups and am always on the lookout for good locations. I did not see a thing wrong with my first visit.

I'm in a group that meets at WE once a month. It's rare that anyone ever misses a meeting. We all love the food, have had nearly the entire menu by now, and service is always excellent. It's a restaurant I rave about without hesitation. It's always spot-on.

Morbid curiosity took my wife and I over there about a month ago. I couldn't believe the crowds for a boring chain restaurant. We opted to go over the river to the one in Clarksville (had to pick up the kids in New Albany) and regret even trying it. It's like Walmart for breakfast foods. I'd rather eat Cracker Barrell, but will campaign vigorously for Wild Eggs from here on out.

IHOP is a cheap no-frill breakfast place that's a little more kid friendly than WE. Occasionally, people need to sacrifice their own taste preference when dining out with younger children. HOWEVER, it's great if a person has children well-mannered and always quite at the breakfast table. Some do not.

...or teach their kids manners at home so they'll have them in public... I know, it's a novel thought...

Or...people could actually see two-year old children sometimes throw temper tantrums; no matter how well a parent has taught them at home to behave.

It has nothing to do with manners, it has to do with convenience.

I took my cousin and her family in from St. Louis to the Westport location recently for a late breakfast. Let's face it--the place is impressive. She had a shrimp bisque, chicken salad; her husband the breakfast burrito; the kids had pancakes; I had a feta/spinach omelette. Everything was good--even the wheat toast was a cut above. They raved about the bisque and were very impressed with the place. I had been to the Dupont location but it was my first time to the Wesport location. The place looks great and I was proud to show it off to my St. Louis folk (along with Wesport Village, in general).
