Vietnam Kitchen for a late lunch

by Adam Smith » Sun Aug 08, 2010 1:53 pm

Haven't posted in a while and thought this was as good a topic as any! Do you guys have some VK favorite dishes? I usually get one of four dishes so any suggestion for something new is welcomed.

I always swear I'm going to try something new when I go there, but the K8 just draws me in like a moth to a flame.

Did try the C5 - Seafood rice noodle soup with shrimp, squid and fish cake - on a recent trip there, and it was excellent.

I've been meaning to try VK but haven't made it there yet. When I do go, doubt I will order K9.

K11 (Hu Tieu Xao Ga) is my new favorite--I've gotten it the last couple of times I've picked up takeout.

I almost always get the B1. Everything on the menu is wonderful, but that is my personal favorite.

On a side note to the K11 rec, as a confirmed carnivore I find myself surprised to learn that I actually preferred the vegetarian version of the dish.

Just so no one will try to satisfy any cravings there soon, Vietnam Kitchen is closed through August 25th for vacation!

You can always try out Pho Bihn Mihn on Strawberry Ln. while VK is closed :D
I eat lunch there at least once or twice a week!

Annie Cafe on Woodlawn is worthy, too, and so is Café Thuy Van on National Turnpike.

I always get the A1 (vegetarian tofu eggrolls) & either N1 (boneless catfish simmered w/ fish sauce in a clay pot) or N4 (pork or pork spare ribs simmered in a clay pot w/ black pepper; served w/ steamed vegetables & rice).

Edit: Oh yeah & the hot & sour soup!
