Veggie banh mi at Zen Garden, yum

by Robin Garr » Fri Aug 06, 2010 3:00 pm

Mary brought me lunch so I can eat at my desk while I work today. Vegetarian Banh Mi from Zen Garden with two or three different kinds of tofu. lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cilantro on a pressed bun, with mayo and pickle and rice chips on the side. Spicy and good ... Who needs meat? :)

Oh man I love that sandwich. Although that's not 3 kinds of tofu, It's seitan and Tofu.

Odd, Mary brought it home with a memorized description from the menu, Mike. I'm almost sure she didn't mention seitan. Either way, it was a good lunch. :)

There's a lot of things on their menu while not majorly off, omit an ingredient or list something that isnt there. I jsut roll with it at this establishment. I distincly recall though each time i've had it it's been seitan, tofu, and veggie ham which is probably made from a little of both. They might just put 3 kinds of tofu because to most people tofu is a generic term for faux meat.

Got it, Mike, thanks. I wish I was more prepared to discuss this in detail, but as I said, Mary brought it home and didn't bring a menu. There was obviously more than one kind of soy protein in there, and I liked it all.

No worries, Mike, I'm certainly not upset, just curious. I dug up their menu, and apparently this is the listing. I wish they would use the Vietnamese names of dishes and ingredients as well as English translations. I think they'd be surprised how many Westerners know the names of the basics, at least.

As you can see, not entirely informative. it's good, though!
