Bungalow Joe's Bar and Grill -Fern Creek

by James Natsis » Thu Jul 29, 2010 9:17 pm

There is a new place coming to the old KMart location on Beulah Church Rd. in Highview/Fern Creek. It is called Bungalow Joe's Bar and Grill. It looks like an original to me. One thing impressive is that they are adding an outside patio next to the restaurant. That is a rarity in the area. Here is a paste from their site (the menu is not yet posted):

Welcome
Bungalow Joe's will be opening soon in Louisville. We are located at 7813 Beulah Church Rd. We are the premier Family Friendly Sports Bar and Grill in Highview / Okolona. 23 HDTVs including a 5' x 7' HD projector and for the first time in Louisville you can watch the NFL in 3D! There is not a bad seat in the house. Watch the game while the kids have fun in the game room. We also have Buzztime and free WiFi!!

Sweet. I was wondering what they had been building onto that particular lease for the past couple weeks. Hopefully it'll turn out to be a good place; it's only 2 minutes from my house.

Will be on the look for them...glad to see some more things opening out this way!

Anyone know anything about the restaurant in the shopping center with Blockbuster on Bardstown right in the same are? Want to say it's called Crabby Joe's, maybe? The name just does not stick with me for some reason and not turning up anything on google for this area, but the place always seems to have a crowd.

Yeah, did a little more digging and it's Crabby Jake's. Have you tried it?

I've tried Crabby Jakes (which is a reincarnation of Bruce's Smokehouse).

While I wouldn't rank it the best fish place in town, it was reasonably good. They use a very light breading on the fish, so light in fact that it has a tendency to flake off. The fish itself was tasty. A similar light breading is used on the chicken as well. They have retained their BBQ menu as well with the usual assortment of BBQ friendly side items.

I've been hoping something interesting would open in the old K-Mart area. I've tried the Mexican place and Win-On. They're not "destination" dining, but perfectly acceptable.

I've tried the BBQ and Fish at Crabby Jake's. I'm not really a BBQ aficionado, but the fish sammiches are very tasty; as well as decent side items. Nice owner and staff make the place welcoming too.

Well, another one bites the dust.

After getting a hankering for some fish, I drove over to Crabby Jake's and they have gone out of business. I guess I will go post a separate thread.

Wow...I was just at the UPS store on Wednesday and they looked to have customers, pretty sure I saw someone walk in even. Guess I should have checked it out sooner... :( Wonder why the restaurants in the area do so little direct advertising to the community, that may help them stay open...

Just had Win On last week and pleasently surprised at how good it is for strip mall chinese, the mexican place Puerto Vallerta, isn't half bad either. Now that I know that is where this mysterious old K-Mart is, I'm only about 2-3 minutes from there myself so it will be good to have something else that's so convienent!
