Cheers from NOLA!

by Stephen D » Fri Jul 23, 2010 8:44 am

I just wanted to pop on briefly and shout-out to everyone from Tales of the Cocktail 2010.

Tales is the premier bartending convention worldwide and everybody comes- from Spain to Japan to Britain. The best of the best, for sure.

I want to let everyone know Louisville is well represented with attendances from Jared Schubert (Anchor,) Larry Rice + Skippy (Social,) Food and Dining Magazine, Josh Durr (Hawthorne Bev/Tonic,) the forum's Luca B (Dumante) and 'ya boy' (Bourbonblog.)

We're having a blast down here- lot's to learn, taste and discuss. Oh yeah and get a bunch of cocktalians together and hilarity is bound to ensue!

I'll share more when we get back...

:D

Dear Stephen,
Thank you for the update from NOLA. Have a grand time with your fellow cocktailians. Call us for anything, except bail.

Thanks for your help Stephen, what a blast, wish I could have stayed longer....
Lots of local industry folk there, ran into representatives from Beam (Bernie Lubbers), Heaven Hill (rob hutchins), Four Roses (Patti & Dan) and many more.
Great networking!!

It has been fantastic, hasn't it, Luca? My only annoyance is that we need at least twice the time given. Shoot, you can finish a seminar at 3:30 and at 3:32 they are shutting down and flipping the room. It reminds me of shooing away rats- and that makes us all uncomfortable.

It's not very good hospitality if you aren't hospitable...

Either way, the finest Sazerac I have had thusfar was produced at the carousel! And my alterior modus operandi is to find the best that I can...

I'll drop the bomb on the junk-landmark restaurant later.

My husband and I were just there a couple weeks ago, and I too had the amazing carousel Sazerac. Takes me right back there! We were staying upstairs in the hotel, and I had to visit the carousel on multiple nights. The highlight of the trip, however, was Bayona, and getting to meet and talk to chef Susan Spicer (I was starstruck.) Shoot, how can I pick just one. Coop's, on Decatur, serves up some kickass true NOLA food. And Faye claims her Bloody Mary is the best in town - no arguments from us. Also, I spent many hours in the Napoleon House, escaping the heat and reading my book at the bar while enjoying Mario's (bartender) Pimm's Cups. Napoleon House is famous for them, but maybe you knew that.

I could go on and on.

Stop in Besh's American Sector in the WWII museum and have an Aviator. Very tasty! A lot of other good drinks on that menu as well. Smartly done.

Enjoy your stay!
