Article about vanilla ice cream?

by Lori R. » Sun Jul 15, 2007 10:31 pm

A few weeks ago my husband saved an article from the CJ about some vanilla ice cream that was suppose to be "awesome". He's a huge fan of good ol' vanilla bean ice cream and really wanted to try this specific kind some time soon. I have misplaced the article and now we are trying to remember where to find it.

What we remember is it is sold in two places...one being at a farmers market and another at a store or restuarant. We think it might have been called Mrs. C's or similar.

Can anyone help us out?

We'll be leaving on vacation first thing in the morning, but I will check back when we return.

Thanks!

I am not sure about the article but if you don't find it try this,

“Creamy Home-made Ice Cream”

•4 eggs
•2 and 1/4 cups sugar
•1 cup milk
•4 cups Half and Half
•4 cups whipping cream
•4 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla*** exchange this with vanilla beans
•1/2 teaspoon salt

Put your eggs in the mixer and commence mixing.
Add your sugar in gradually and beat this until stiff
Add your cup o milk first mixing all the while
Add the rest of the butterfat goodness.
Use enough vanilla bean to get you to the equivalent of 4 teaspoons or so.
Cut the beans and use the tar inside the bean that's what you need outta them beans.
Salt and mix well.
Put it in the freezer for about 30-45 minutes remove and dump it
in your ice cream maker and follow their directions
and Voila

I'll look about and see if I can't find the exchange for extract to beans.
If not maybe someone will jump in and help out

I don't remember the name or the other location, but it's definitely sold at the Bardstown Road Farmers' Market.

Thanks for the info and the recipe for vanilla ice cream. We just returned from Mexico and I picked up a few vanilla beans so I will give this recipe a try. Will also try to hit the Bardstown Rd. farmers market!

Thanks!

We bought some of the ice cream Saturday at the Beargrass Farmers' Market. It's called "Mrs. Charlotte's" or something like that.

It's okay - creamy and rich, but dense, almost like homemade freezer-tray ice cream - and unreasonably expensive at $5 for a very small tub.

Wow! That is rather pricey for some ice cream that you cannot rave about! Hopefully my homemade version will turn out good enough that my husband will "rave"!
