Asiatique

by JustinHammond » Thu Jul 22, 2010 9:53 am

The wife and I finally made it to Asiatique for happy hour and it didn’t disappoint. The food was spot on, with a slight overkill of presentation and garnish. The real star of this happy hour is the cocktails. I can’t remember the names for obvious reasons, but they were all great and all ½ price. These are not your normal cocktails. Some are approaching Stephen D type cocktails.

Bourbon with basil, mint, and coconut water 10/10
Tequila with grapefruit, sprite, lime 9/10
Vodka with mango and cilantro 10/10
Tequila with lemon and ginger 10/10
Margarita 9/10

All the cocktails are generous in size and range from $3.50 - $4.50 after the happy hour discount.
The only negatives I have are the bar and dessert. The bar is horribly uncomfortable, with no ledge for leg room. Dessert lacked flavor and was overpriced.

Food (half off listed prices)

9/10
roasted duck breast, spicy asian salsa, spiced miso aioli and crisp tortilla chips 9.5

8/10
woked spicy lamb, red capsicum and maui onion and sweetpotato basket 8.5

8/10
goat cheese+crabmeat spring roll and spicy miso aioli 8.5

9/10
wok sauteed five spiced shrimp, asparagus, red pepper and scallion 8.5

7/10
dessert tasting – chocolate tort, ginger crème brulee, blackberry ice cream, banana lumpia 12

The tort and lumpia were fantastic; however, the brulee and ice cream lacked any of their advertised flavors. We also felt the $12 price was out of line. Everything was super small, served in sake glasses.

Best happy hour in Louisville!

Anderson has created a very impressive cocktail list there, and changes it regularly based on the season. Asiatique has become our go-to for happy hours, after-dinner drinks, or later evening small plates and drinks. It helps that we live close.

Justin, next time you go, you might head downstairs to Lounge A - very comfy couches, good service, and the happy hour pricing and menu applies down there. We rarely sit at the bar anymore. It is a very cool looking bar, but doesn't lend itself well for long sits. The lounge is much more comfortable.

Since they've opened (even when they were near the Old Sears building) I've loved their food and drinks, but their desserts . . . . . now we always pass and have an after dinner cocktail instead.
