Dallas McGarity is now at Equus/Jack's

by GaryF » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:46 pm

I'm very excited that Dean and Dallas are letting me bring the good news to Louisville Hotbytes:
Dallas McGarity formerly of Volare and Z's Fusion is now heading up the kitchen at Equus/ Jack's Lounge.
The new menu featuring favorite standards from Equus/ Jack's and Dallas' exciting new additions will be in place in the very near future. At the moment Dallas is running 2 or 3 specials every night.
According to Dallas his additions will include comfort food with a European, slightly Italian, bent.

I admit to total prejudice, but Dean is a master of making his restaurants special, and with the 25th anniversary of Equus coming next month I think Dallas' arrival bodes very well for the next quarter century.

from a Facebook post that I made on July 13:

Dinner tonight at Equus to see how Dallas is doing as he takes over the kitchen. He is still working on the new menu so I had the evening special: wild Paciffic salmon on a bed of ratatouille topped with leek crisps and dusted with curry. Divine! I can tell that I will be eating there frequently.

I could've sworn that I had posted it here. :(

Don't feel bad, Gayle....I get "blogged down" myself from time to time!

That's a nice secret I've kept to myself as well. I'm glad it's out there now.
I think Dallas will do great things there.

I'm still curious - was the original Dallas to Avalon news incorrect?

It was correct. Simply put, Sometimes the shoe fits, sometimes not-so-much so.

I'm personally even more excited for Dallas with this position because Dean has a reputation as being one of the best bosses one can work for. Not to mention the whole career of exceptional cuisine and dedication to the community aspect.

Oh, no doubt. The combo of Dallas and Dean should be great. It's just that Equus is so good as it is, and while I like Avalon, the thought of Dallas stepping things up there was also exciting.
