Beverage professionals in the Louisville area will soon have a chance to begin their journeys toward becoming Master Sommeliers. On Sept. 21-22, the Court of Master Sommeliers will offer its Level 1 Introductory Course and Exam at Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies. Bristol Bar and Grille beverage director Scott Harper will lead the course along with fellow Master Sommeliers Brett Davis and Matthew Citriglia. The cost of the course and exam is $495. The Master Sommelier Introductory Sommelier Course & Exam is the first of four required steps to become a Master Sommelier. The Introductory course is an intensive two-day program that surveys the world of beer, wine and spirits. Candidates will also be taught the Master Sommelier Deductive Blind Tasting Method and the Court’s Service Standards, which are necessary for higher-level examination.
The program ends on the second day with the Introductory Sommelier Exam, a multiple-choice theory exam consisting of 70 questions. The intent of the Introductory Sommelier Course is to provide wine and hospitality professionals with a thorough review of the world of wines and spirits at high professional standards.
