Flabby's gone? [sob]

by Robin Garr » Sun Jul 18, 2010 8:47 pm

We're getting credible reports that Flabby's Schnitzelburg is gone, having shut the doors after closing last night. Can anybody confirm or disprove this report? I'm getting no answer at their phone, but it's probably past Sunday closing time ... still, no answering machine?

Can't confirm but not surprised. Since Greg Haner was no longer involved, the food and service went way downhill. No great loss under those circumstances.

I coincidentally had a fried chicken dinner there last night...the last night. No one said a word but when I ran into two of their employees at Pauly's Schnitzelburg Pub later they confirmed the rumor.

I thought dinner was great, and I feel very fortunate to have eaten there on their last night. As a member of the Schnitzelburg community I feel that this is a great loss and I hope someone buys it soon and keeps the history and tradition alive.

Sad news. I only ate there once, oddly enough next to Jesse- good chicken for sure.

Went by today after hearing the rumors. It was about 3pm and no one was there, the lights were off, and all of the chairs were stacked on top of the tables.
This is a real heartbreaker. I can see Flabby's from my backyard and I would frequently go by for a couple oyster shooters if I had a craving. My grandparents took my dad and aunt and uncles there on the weekends for the best fried chicken in the city.
A real loss...

      Another landmark gone. I can personally vouch for the chicken wings. Their Tuesday chicken wing lunch feed was regularly attended by many of us back in the day. I'll be honest though, and admit to not going to eat there for several years. Tastes change.

This is indeed sad....Flabby's was a Veneman tradition for several generations.

I drove by a few minutes ago. The sign on the door says "Closed for Vacation."

Sounds like a great place for Danny Mac's to relocate? Beer and liquor license go with the territory?

I don't know about going with the territory, but any new business would need to apply for their own license with ABC.
