Meridian Cafe-another restoration of my faith in louisville

by Ellen White » Sat Jul 14, 2007 3:57 pm

Earlier this week, I complimented Proof on Main here (see "I just have to say this about Proof on Main"), and now I must thank the owner of the Meridian Cafe as well.
On Monday, my wallet and checkbook were stolen from my purse at work. Whether someone came in off the street or whether it was one of our clients (I work for lawyers), I don't know. Not only did I have to go through the whole process of cancelling credit cards, closing and re-opening a checking account, getting a new license, registration, health insurance cards, etc., it just made me feel really bad. Not only was I pretty depressed, but I just felt "blah", like I was out of it.
I went to NYC for vacation this year, and I halfway expected to have my purse stolen, but I never expected someone to come into my office and steal stuff out of my purse right here at home.
Wednesday was a better day, with Honda Corporation coming through on fixing my car for free and with my wonderful experience at Proof.
Then, today, my daughter and I went to Meridian Cafe for lunch (as we do at least one Saturday a month). For absolutely no reason except that we go there often, the owner, Mike, came over and said, "Lunch is on the house today." Seriously, folks, I am not an emotional person, but there were literally tears in my eyes.
After such a horrid experience on Monday, and feeling like *** for the whole week, the experiences I had at Proof on Wednesday and at Meridian Cafe today (Saturday) went a long way in restoring my faith in the people of this city. I'm not a social person, I don't have a lot of friends, but I do like to eat out with my daughter and I try to treat people who work at the restaurants well, and I appreciate the way we are treated by the local restaurant community.
Thank you

What heart-warming stories! Thanks for sharing them, Ellen. And I'm sorry, as I know we all are, that you had some not-so-happy experiences. Hope the rest of the week, month and year are better for you!

I want to echo Robin's thanks here, Ellen. Everyone needs to hear of those out of the ordinary random acts of kindness. I have enjoyed Meridian Cafe before and will enjoy them even more on my next visit.
