Steve-O's Italian Kitchen - Crestwood Location ONLY closed

by Steve P » Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:13 am

The Crestwood location of Steve-O's Italian kitchen closed on Monday...Same out of the way plaza as the former Arbor Ridge. The Buckner location on HWY 146 is still in operation and from what I can see still generates a very nice lunch and dinner crowd.

We've been fans of Steve O's since he opened in Buckner, but I had the impression that his Crestwood location had been struggling almost from inception -- due in part (I think) to local signage restrictions which may have also hampered the marketability of Arbor Ridge...

Talked with Steve O yesterday at my place...

The Buckner location is going strong. Thank goodness.

Seems the rent was pretty high there in Crestwood. The J Cumbos, in the same strip as Steve's and Arbor, closed too.

Keep on dinning out.

I think J.Gumbo's was actually located south of Arbor Ridge/Steve O's in another strip mall just outside of Crestwood proper...sorry to hear they closed, nevertheless.

I have lived in Crestwood for 4 years now and I can tell you this is a fast food town. Crestwood is growing fast but are families with children. That means fast food. The days go fast out here kids are on buses before 7am and by time the parents get home at 5 to 6 pm there is little time for casual dining, homework, baths and to bed before 9pm. These restaurants that closed are surrounded by 3 elementary, 1 middle and 1 high school. Places that are geared toward kids is what is going to last out here.

Our J. Gumbo's location in Crestwood is still open, although we had to reduce our hours some to help defer some labor costs. We have closed Sundays and between lunch and dinner shifts during the week when traffic is extremely slow. We are located in the shopping center with the fitness place, behind the little stand alone coffee shop.

It has been difficult to break into the Crestwood market, as someone mentioned people there seem to be prone to going to places with better marketing budgets than us little guys tend to have. We believe in the market, though and are doing everything we can to stick it out. The customers we do have are loyal and we love them.
