Real mexican w/ a bar ?

by JustinHammond » Mon Jul 12, 2010 7:41 am

Are there any "real" mexican places that also serve alcohol? I'm craving some carnitas, barbacoa, and pastor tacos and a margarita.

I would check out La Tapatia on Preston. Arguably the best spot of its kind. They have a bar where I have seen others consuming spirits , have not noticed any margaritas though, but I would assume they will make them.
The tall one wants white toast, dry, with nothin' on it.
And the short one wants four whole fried chickens, and a Coke.

Didn't someone just get killed at this place?

Yep, thats the spot. Just make sure you get the "real" menu. The one thats in English does not have all that is offered in the other one.

I wouldn't worry too much about safety at La Tapatia. Stuff happens just about anywhere, but it's not what I'd call a murder bar.

I've actually had several meals there and I've never seen a murder. The food was authentic...I had beer so I can't comment on the mixed drinks.

Have fun.

Hehe...

Now that's what I call exciting. There are just 3 letters separating adventure and misadventure!

Justin, I'll play along. Shall we? Xcept no margaritas. Tequilla- room temp. We can scratch our scratchy beards while we are at it...

EDIT: This is hilarious, yet makes sense, espescially the part with the grown man riding the burro, lol!

or a better, more intellectuallychallenging one, from the same people...

I may be wrong about this, but I think you'd be hard pressed to get a margarita in a taqueria, even one with a liquor license.

And you can't have slaughter without laughter.

Eaten there many times, always good, no murder, no booze (that I've seen), but haven't been since last August.

I'm not talking about a sugar laced, frat boy margarita. A couple ounces tequila, fresh lime juice, and agave nectar.

Maybe we can belly up to the bar with the head of a drug cartel.

I'm fairly certain you can get a margarita at Tapatia. And the dispute and shooting there I'm almost certain probably happened later at night when it turns more into a bar. Go in before 7pm or so and don't flash any gang signs and you will greatly reduce your risk of any trouble.

Hmmm...

Maybe a light-offline? I could get us some tequilla sent, as long as the owners wouldn't mind a bottle-fee or whatnot (and I run through my paces with the product.) Craft Tequillas are steaming-hot right now.

C'mon then... let's do it! You know I know what you meant, brother.

I was just enjoying the whole visual. RAWR!

I'm down, just really busy the next few weekends. I could do lunch this Fri. or lunch the 24th.

Hell, we could just sit in the parking lot of My Patria and eat tacos and drink tequila from the bottle.
