Lexington suggestions or recommendations

by Neal M » Thu Jul 12, 2007 11:10 pm

Any suggestions for a nice dinner for two in Lexington on a Saturday night? I'm not looking for a Bucks or Lily's but don't want to end up at the equivalent of a Buckheads or Tumbleweed either. A nice Al Fresco atmosphere would be really nice as well.

Neal, there's a nice little place downtown, Metropol. It's located in the old Post Office building on Short Street. There is an extensive bourbon list and a few tables on the sidewalk where you can watch the nightlife and the horse carriages go by. They'll take a reservation for two, and are also on restaurant.com if you'd like to save a few bucks. Ask for the manager Emily and tell her that Beth sent you. She'll make sure you're taken care of and can offer wonderful wine and bourbon suggestions.

I like Mteropol a lot. We had a big thread on this subject on the old forum.

Azur Restaurant and Patio

by Gayle DeM » Fri Jul 13, 2007 10:30 am

If you are looking a nice al fresco atmosphere, I suggest that you consider Azur Restaurant and Patio. The menu is quite eclectic and has a wide price range. http://www.azurrestaurant.com/

I was there the other day and made a huge mistake by going to the Tony Roma's chain. I should have known better, I should have known better, I should have known better.

Very ordinary bread with garlic margarine. Ugh.

I ordered the beef ribs. They had a smokey flavor but were way too salty and the meat lost to the gristle. Inedible beans and blah coleslaw. This was at Lexington Green Circle.

So don't go there. As I said, I should have known better.

on other place really worth checking out is Grotto on S. Ashland Avenue. Drew Howell, the owner, has something amazing things going on there not only with the food but with the wines as well. the focus is on local and the menu changes based on what's fresh and, for outdoor dining, there's a nice sized patio just out front. since the restaurant is situated in the heart of Chevy Chase, it provides great people watching! it's one you should definitely check out.

I would agree with all of the restaurants already listed.

Nice patio spots ....
Grotto (they also have an indoor bar area)
Portofino ... nice Italian spot
Rossi's
Azur
Murray's
Jonathan's at Gratz Park
Dudley's

PM if you want phone numbers and/or directions ... I live in Lexington and know all the front AND back doors to the restaurants!

I second Dudley's - especially for al fresco dining. Their patio is wonderful for that purpose.
